I've been climbing for about 8 years. I was first inspired to begin climbing on a hiking trip up Mt. Whitney. There came a point on the hike where the trail diverged. To the left was the "Hiker's Route" and to the right was the "Mountaineer's Route". I remember thinking how the Mountaineer's Route and the lines going up the face looked like so much more fun than where I was going to be going. I decided then and there to learn how to climb.
