UPDATE -- I had (2008) hired on fulltime at Brunswick Nuclear Plant in Southport, North Carolina... Thus I have moved from the LBC to a small beach community on the Atlantic. Now (2014), moving north of Charlotte, NC (Lake Norman) to a corporate technical specialist position in the Nuclear Generation Department of the largest Public Utility in the Country... Between work and the family, I rarely get online at this site much anymore, and I prefer less drama now anyway... And to think I used to be one of the owners of this joint! Shoot me an email at the above addy, and I'll get back to you quick. ____________________________________________________________________________________ R.I.P Mike Reardon -- I looked up to you as a friend and as a climber... You will be missed and never forgotten. ____________________________________________________________________________________ I've been climbing since 1999, and my job inspecting Nuclear Power Plants required cross-country travel, so I was blessed in that I get a chance to sample some of the choicest rock around the country. (Have climbed in: CA, AZ, NV, UT, CO, NM, TX, AR, GA, TN, SC, NC, VA, WVA, MD, DC, PA, NY, IL, SD, WY, & Canada) Look for me at your favorite crag... I'm easy to spot, as I usually wear 'sawed-off-Dickies', I'm gregarious to say the least, my hair's never 'normal', and my Pathfinder's licence reads: RRRADAM. ____________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________ “If you want to build a ship, don't drum up people together to collect wood and don't assign them tasks and work, but rather teach them to long for the endless immensity of the sea” ~Antoine de Saint-Exupery _____________________________________________________________________________________ "A human being is part of the whole, called by us "Universe"; a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings as something seperate from the rest -- a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty. Nobody is able to achieve this completely but the striving for such achievement is, in itself, a part of the liberation and a foundation for inner security" ~Albert Einstein ____________________________________________________________________________________ "Those that have convictions that are not arrived at by reason can not be unconvinced by reason." ~Unknown _____________________________________________________________________________________ "The trouble with the world isn't that people know too little, but that they know so much that just ain't so." ~Mark Twain _____________________________________________________________________________________ "There is a fundamental difference between religion, which is based on authority, [and] science, which is based on observation and reason. Science will win because it works." ~Stephen Hawking _____________________________________________________________________________________ "The human understanding is no dry light, but receives an infusion from the will and affections; whence proceed sciences which may be called "sciences as one would." For what a man had rather were true he more readily believes. Therefore he rejects difficult things from impatience of research; sober things, because they narrow hope; the deeper things of nature, from superstition; the light of experience, from arrogance and pride, lest his mind should seem to be occupied with things mean and transitory; things not commonly believed, out of deference to the opinion of the vulgar. Numberless, in short, are the ways, and sometimes imperceptible, in which the affections color and infect the understanding." ~Francis Bacon _____________________________________________________________________________________ "So first of all, let me assert my firm belief that the only thing we have to fear is fear itself -- nameless, unreasoning, unjustified terror which paralyzes efforts to convert retreat into advance." ~Franklin D. Roosevelt _____________________________________________________________________________________ "When you believe in things that you don't understand, then you suffer, superstition ain't the way" ~Stevie Wonder _____________________________________________________________________________________ "Do not wait for leaders; do it alone, person to person." ~Mother Teresa _____________________________________________________________________________________ "Fables should be taught as fables, myths as myths, and miracles as poetic fancies. To teach superstitions as truths is a most terrible thing." ~Hypatia of Alexandria (~400 CE)_____________________________________________________________________________________ "The truth is incontrovertible; malice may attack it, ignorance my deride it, but in the end, there it is." ~Winston Churchill _____________________________________________________________________________________ "For me, it is far better to grasp the Universe as it really is than to persist in delusion, however satisfying and reassuring." ~Carl Sagan _____________________________________________________________________________________ "I am not an advocate for frequent changes in laws and constitutions. But laws and institutions must go hand in hand with the progress of the human mind. As that becomes more developed, more enlightened, as new discoveries are made, new truths discovered and manners and opinions change, with the change of circumstances, institutions must advance to keep pace with the times." ~Thomas Jefferson _____________________________________________________________________________________ "If the world should blow itself up, the last audible voice would be that of an expert saying it can't be done." ~John Hoyer _____________________________________________________________________________________ "My philosophy, in essence, is the concept of man as a heroic being, with his own happiness as the moral purpose of his life, with productive achievement as his noblest activity, and reason as his only absolute." ~Ayn Rand _____________________________________________________________________________________ "Physics is like sex: sure, it may give some practical results, but that's not why we do it." ~Richard Feynman _____________________________________________________________________________________ "I was lying under a quantum tree, when a quantum fell on my head." ~John Baez _____________________________________________________________________________________ "A closed mind cannot think freely" ~Bruce Lee _____________________________________________________________________________________ "Why is it that the age at which people have kids is often times directly proportional to the number of teeth in the mouths of their parents ???" ~Me _____________________________________________________________________________________ "The only cure for a 'fear of falling' is to jump." ~Carl Jung _____________________________________________________________________________________ "If you like the Jerry Springer show--I probably think you're an IDIOT !!!" ~Me _____________________________________________________________________________________ "In situations that matter, mythologies are immensely powerful things, and sometimes we humans go to enormous lengths to see the world as we think it should be, even when the evidence says we are mistaken." ~Robert Laughlin _____________________________________________________________________________________ "Faith is antithetical to reason." ~Ayn Rand _____________________________________________________________________________________ "Even Newton and Einstein were profoundly wrong about things they felt strongly about." ~Lee Smolin _____________________________________________________________________________________ Only 1 in 5 knows the first name of any one of their 8 great-grandparents... Point: There is an 80% chance that your own progeny won't even know your name. Humbling, isn't it ?!?!? _____________________________________________________________________________________ "...the truth emerges only when all ideology, prejudice and dogma are set aside." ~Johannes Kepler _____________________________________________________________________________________ "I don't care about you! Fuck you!" ~FEAR _____________________________________________________________________________________ "A pearl is a temple, built with pain around a grain of sand. What longing built our bodies, and around what grains?" ~Khalil Gibran _____________________________________________________________________________________ "Exercise your mind--It'll get stronger." ~Me _____________________________________________________________________________________ "Holy Writ was intended to teach men how to go to Heaven, not how the heavens go." ~Galileo Galilei _____________________________________________________________________________________ "1 test is worth a 1,000 expert opinions." ~NDE/QC Company Logo _____________________________________________________________________________________ "But the years of anxious searching in the dark for a truth that one feels but cannot express, the intense desire and the alternations of confidence and misgiving, and the final emergence into the light--Only those who have experienced it can appreciate it." ~Albert Einstein _____________________________________________________________________________________ "...a careful reading of older texts, particularly those concerned with the universe itself, shows that the authors invoke divinity only when they reach the boundaries of their understanding. They appeal to a higher power only when staring into the ocean of their own ignorance." ~Neil deGrasse Tyson _____________________________________________________________________________________ "I think physicists are the Peter Pans of the world. They never grow up and they keep their curiousty." ~Isador Isaac Rabi _____________________________________________________________________________________ "I have no special talents. I am only passionately curious." ~Albert Einstein _____________________________________________________________________________________ "I contend that we are both atheists. I just believe in one fewer god than you do. When you understand why you dismiss all the other possible gods, you will understand why I dismiss yours." ~Stephen F. Roberts _____________________________________________________________________________________ "A person's intelligence is inversely proportional to the numbers of times they push the elevator button." ~Unknown _____________________________________________________________________________________ "I do not know what I may appear to the world, but to myself I seem to have been only a little boy playing on the seashore, and diverting myself now and then in finding a smoother pebble or a prettier shell than ordinary, whilst the great ocean of truth lay undiscovered before me." ~Isaac Newton _____________________________________________________________________________________ "Matter tells space how to bend; space tells matter how to move." ~John Wheeler _____________________________________________________________________________________ "Early man walked away as modern man took control, their minds weren't all the same, to conquer was his goal. So he built his great empire and slaughtered his own kind, then he died a confused man, killed himself with his own mind." ~Bad Religion _____________________________________________________________________________________ "The less one knows about the universe, the easier it is to explain." ~Leon Brunschvicg _____________________________________________________________________________________ "First, get the facts, then you can distort them at your leisure." ~Mark Twain _____________________________________________________________________________________ "Morality is simply the attitude we adopt towards people whom we personally dislike." ~Oscar Wilde _____________________________________________________________________________________ "...a large portion of voters are kneejerking simpletons easily distracted by shiny things and yelling..." ~Andy Gram (atg200) _____________________________________________________________________________________ "The great tragedy of Science--The slaying of a beautiful hypothesis by an ugly fact." ~Thomas Huxley _____________________________________________________________________________________ "All of physics is either impossible or trivial. Its impossible until you understand it, and then it becomes trivial." ~Ernest Rutherford _____________________________________________________________________________________ "In general we look for a new law by the following process. First you guess. Don't laugh, this is the most important step. Then you compute the consequences. Compare the consequenses to experience. If it disagrees with experience, the guess is wrong. In that simple statement is the key to science. It does not matter how beautiful your guess is or how smart you are or what your name is. If it disagrees with experience, it's wrong. That's all there is to it." ~Richard Feynman _____________________________________________________________________________________ "Men occasionally stumble over the truth, but most of them pick themselves up and hurry off as if nothing happened." ~Winston Churchill _____________________________________________________________________________________ "Chance favors the prepared mind." ~Louis Pasteur _____________________________________________________________________________________ "We argue for the Big Bang model as the most persuasive and inclusive physical theory of the cosmos at this time because the model has predictive ability (i.e. it encompasses simultatneously many and diverse astronomical observations) and in particular because, as any viable theory must, it continues to survive the challenges of observational falsification... In the case of the Big Bang, not only has the model survived over a number of decades, but the case for it has become progressively stronger." ~Ralph Alpher & Robert Herman _____________________________________________________________________________________ "Anyone who is not shocked by quantum theory has not understood it." ~Niels Bohr _____________________________________________________________________________________ "Q:What was God doing before He created the Universe? A:Before He created the Heaven and Earth, God created Hell to be used for people such as you who ask this kind of question." ~St Augustine _____________________________________________________________________________________ "Science is what you know. Philosophy is what you don't know." ~Bertrand Russel _____________________________________________________________________________________ "Science is the great antidote to the poison of enthusiasm and superstition." ~Adam Smith _____________________________________________________________________________________ "Philosophy of science is about as useful to scientists as ornithology is to birds." ~Richard Feynman _____________________________________________________________________________________ "The Laws of Physics are determined by the environment." ~Leonard Susskind _____________________________________________________________________________________ "The whole wide world, an endless universe, yet we keep looking through the eyeglass in reverse." ~RUSH _____________________________________________________________________________________ "No amount of experimentation can ever prove me right; a single experiment can prove me wrong." ~Albert Einstein _____________________________________________________________________________________ "In a world of unbounded resources, lack of competition would not have slowed the evolution of the smartest creatures, but it would have made a lot more dumb ones." ~Leonard Susskind

I'm familiar with almost every climbing area around SoCal, and many more beyond. If you're in SoCal, and need a partner or information, and I'm not on the road, I'll make time for ya. I can even hook you up with some local Punk, Rock, and/or Jazz shows if you're into music, as I got a little 'juice' around the SoCal music scene.
