Really good book. The only one I'm aware of for Smith.
Until the update comes, check with the local Smith climbing shop about the added pages. Spring of 05, you could go to the hadware store in town and pay for photocopies of the updated info. Really helps the book out a lot.

One of the best guidebooks ever published with clear descriptions, photos, and topos with attention to detail. Probably due to the fact that Alan Watts bolted or climbed nearly every pitch in the whole guide. The photos are a good archive of 80's lycra sport climbing. This guide should serve as a template for any aspiring guidebook author. The new guide should be excellent as well, supposedly been in the works for quite some time.

Needs to be updated, which according to SmithRock.com, is going to happen next year. Better to just show up at Smith Rock and walk by the walls, pick a route at random, and climb it. There are also always people around who probably know the routes and can recommend them to you. Useful to define an area in terms of bolted, sport, sunny, cool, etc. but badly in need of an updated route menu. The author, Alan Watts clearly has passion for Smith Rocks and will be great when the new one comes out.
