These are my favourite of my bent gate binas - just 'cause they are so handy when double roping or when on overhanging terrain and you need a massive bucket to clip your rope into and still have finger space if you are clipping gumby

Meets the basic needs - it's not fashionable and I think that's what I liked most about it - nice simple, traditional - so I'm a trad geek ... shoot me.

Pros? If you want a basic helmet that's cheap, practical, unfashionable, and atavistic looking - this is the helmet for you.

Cons? Applied with my headlamp it's really back heavy!!! - My headlamp is normally quite well balanced on my head (it's a Petzl Duo 8)

great for belay from above ... it tad too fast on the rappel for me. This is my backup device in the case that I might drop my reverso (fingers crossed that never happens!!!)

Love it. The multi-purpose-ness of it just makes it the best belay device. I never touch my atc anymore. Never touch my fig of eights. My gigi is just on the rack 'in case of emergency'. The only tools I use to replace it are my prussic cords for ascension and my rap rack for most abseiling (you just can't beat the feeling of abseiling on a rack ... still yet to try out a gold tail though)

10/5

Pros: Great for solo climbing. I still haven't used it in a hauling setup yet but I'm sure it'd be smooth as silk. Hasn't damaged my rope yet. The sheath hasn't slipped and I've taken a few decent falls when soloing.

Cons: I'd prefer a solo device I could use whilst leading. If you use the wrong bina it can get 'trapped' on a corner of the bina and will jam the rope, if you aren't concious of this you could be in for a big surprise when you get to the top of the climb!!! Another hassle, as pointed out by Adam, is the device really can lock up when loaded. If you've fallen off an overhang when soloing and you can't get back on the climb (as I've obviously experienced) you have to prussic up to the top of the ledge ... a pain in the backside ... oh yeah, and swapping from ascension to descension can be very very time consuming!!!

Overall: It's brilliant!!! I do really like it, especially now that I've worked out the cons I know how to prevent them or work with the situation.
