Rubber was OK but a bit stiffer than 5.10 C4. Fit was good on my foot though one of the seams dug into my ankle slightly. Major problem was excessive amounts of toe rubber delaminating from the shoe within one month of use. I've never seen such poor quality in a shoe so I thought it may have been a fluke. I contacted Bufo and they said delamination happens at times. They made no offer to replace, repair, or refund the shoes. I had recieved the shoes through a pro-deal for half-price. Even at this low cost ($40) the shoes were not worth it. Mad Rock makes a much better product in this price range.

Great for trip planning, Rock N Road gives brief beta to just about every area in North America. And I mean brief. Rock N Road is sort of what the RC.com route database strives to be. But Toula did his mostly singlehandedly. He gives a quick description to each area, lists classic routes, and gives driving directions (which are pretty accurate - but I'd hate to trust them at 1am). Just enough beta to figure out if you ever want to visit a certain area. One problem with the book is that he does npt clearly indicate if each area is trad, alpine, sport, or bouldering. You can sometimes decipher that from his descriptions but not always. Toula doesn't have every single climbing area here. An obvious void is no info on many bouldering areas that have sprouted up in the last couple years. But he'll just have to include those in the 3rd edition.

Great guide but covers only the popular Cactus Cliff area. You'll need Fred Knapp's or Mark Van Horn's guide to cover other excellent Shelf areas like the Bank or the Gymnasium.

Rick is supposed to be issuing a second issue of this guide in 2004.

Not a comprehensive guide to Shelf, but none really exists as of 2004. This guide excels in covering the northern areas, such as Heaven. Doesn't include much of the newer popular Cactus Cliff routes. Look for Rick Thompson's guide for those routes.

Good guide that contains the VRG, Utah Hills limestone, St. George sandstone, etc. I've heard locals grumble that the author's grades and quality ratings can be a bit off at times, so take it all with a grain of salt. I thought things were mostly accurate and directions to cliffs and routes were great. There's tons of rock with new routes in this area so this is one of those guides that was probably dated the moment it was published.
