What a find 4 out of 5 stars

My girlfriend and I rescued three pairs of these from the back room of a local outfitter this past weekend. She's stoked because they are akin to her Bamba's (her favortie shoe on the planet) and I like them because of the nifty pocket under the toe knuckles, just in front of the ball of my foot. It creates a nice pivot point and great way to shift weight on holds. I wish current shoes had this feature!

Ok, so the attached catalog was for the 2000-2001 collection... the rubber is in perfect condition and I am not advanced enough to know if it stinks or not, but so far they smear better than my MadRocks (Phoenix), fit as snugly as my Montrails (Index) without the Velcro issues (grrr) and are more secure in the heel than my crack climbing Acopas (Chameleon).

If it were possible to find more of these, I would suggest you buy them.

When I pulled the Chameleon from their box my first impression was: no frills. However, after wearing them around my living room and finding the soles coated with cat hiar and lint, I knew I was in for something special. Folks, my fingers stick to the soles of these shoes, the rubber is just that sticky.

The fit is awesome, perfect for my D-width forefoot and C-width heel. The construction is immaculate with hand sanded seams and expert stitching. Vented tongue, trimmable straps, awesome quality and oh-so confidence inspiring!

Definately support these guys, they have great products and amazing customer service. I sent my sizing info and had immediate responses from Mr. Bachar with recommendations in regard to Acopa's sizing and specific models.

My feet are oddly shaped and sized so finding a pair of shoes that actually fit is a challenge. A few months ago I bought a pair of these from a local retailer. Living in Dallas, TX does not give me much access to a variety of shoes. After trying on all the Sportiva, Evolve, 5.10 and Madrock models that were available... these actually fit my feet very well.

Honestly, they worked great. They are basic gym shoes and the comfort level was great. I was no longer edging on my pinkie toes or blackening my toe nails. After a few weeks, however, a seam in the heel cup ripped open due to faulty stitching. One phone call and Montrail kindly replaced them free of charge. Awesome.

My second pair lasted exactly 3 days of gym climbing, after which one of the metal buckles for the velcro strap snapped in half when I was putting them on for a climb.

So, the first shoe I have found that actually fit my foot has now broken. Twice. So much for "Made in China" quality manufacturing. They're sending me a pair of Index's (for an additional $10 charge...) and I have already ordered a pair of Acopa Chameleons after talking at length with Mr. Bachar about my various fitment issues.

It is a good basic shoe for the gym that also worked well on limestone, but quality is a real issue.
