Of course this photo is ENTIRELY photoshopped. When leaving Alaska on a multi-month road trip, both me and Kelsey ( Prezwoodz) simultaneously expressed a lifelong dream of buildering a bridge, and promtply decided to fulfill said dream. If this were real, that would be Kelsey on top of the Tanana River Bridge, but of course, nobody would actually DO such a thing. That's illegal!

This is just a shot of the 125 foot line I had up a while back. Nothing special, just a good display of the length. I took the pic myself, and that's me mounting the line. Quite a fun workout on a ten second timer to race across the roof, drop to the crashpad on the porch, sprint across the lawn, and still have the composure to mount without dying. It took a lot of tries to get this.

This pic is part just for an article, and part because it's kinda cool. I tightened this forty-foot line alone, and got my mom to take a pic of me testing the tightness. Enjoy!

We've all thought it. "What if that little rock was big enough to climb?" Or, "If I was only small enough to climb this!" or, in this case, "I wish I could slack, right here, right now." This is my attempt at achieving that slightly skewed reality that has wandered in and out of my mind for years.
We can always dream.

Had a great time slacking late at night with a bonfire to return to after eating it into the snow. I thought this shot was nicely timed. Travis took several nice falls caught on camera, and we all added a few craters to the packed ice field around the line.

This pic is fairly self-explanatory. We were messing with some rigging to get odd new angles, and happened to time this sequence of shots quite nicely with my least-graceful fall of the day. I especially like the third frame.

We've all thought it. "What if that little rock was big enough to climb?" Or, "If I was only small enough to climb this!" This is my attempt at achieving that slightly skewed reality that has wandered in and out of my mind for years. In this particular picture, you all get a personal peek at where my mind wanders as I sit here at my computer doing nothing.
We can always dream.
This one is a work in progress. Eventually I planned to have a friend or two sitting around watching, and camp set up next to the mouse, but I lost motivation, so maybe it's stuck like this. We'll see.

Actually, the Eskimos don't slack like this, presumably because they don't have trees. But if they did, I'm sure this is the way they would do it. Here I am in my yard on a blistering warm spring morning in February, enjoying some sun while waiting for the crags to dry up.
Well, maybe it's not blistering, or warm, or spring, but it is sunny and February, and that makes up for it. When you live in Alaska, you learn to love it!

Here we see Ben Bates ( bigboulderboarderbinerben), his brother Tim, and me ( ColdClimb) on my house traverse. During the winter, this section is the crux because the butterflies are taken down due to the wind. Both of these guys made it through the harder sections, but as of January 6th 2004, the traverse of the entire house remains unrepeated except by me. Hopefully, one of you will one day claim the second ascent by coming and meeting me. ;) Pic taken by me on a fifteen second timer. Made good time to stick the windowsill dyno and get myself up there to pose. Fun stuff!

John Borland pulls into the mantle on this 25 foot highball builder problem with ready and attentive spotters watching carefully below (yeah right). When one's partners can't ever climb, one must resort to desperate measures. Pic taken by Ben Bates ( bigboulderboarderbinerben). Many thanks to Phil for approving this one as medium. :)

This picture is so perfect, it's almost hard to see it as a coincidence. I was doing a full-body span across the band room doorway at my school with my friend taking a picture of it. He took one, but something went wierd, so I suggested he take another. He got ready, and pressed the button. The shutter, however, waited for a moment to click, and in that exact moment, the door opened, and you can see the guy behind it.
Now for a bit of history. That guy coming through the door right underneath me happens to be the husband of my sister's former spanish teacher, with whom my family nearly got in a law suit just two years ago. He also happens to be the assistant principal, and head disciplinarian at our school. A real jerk, and the absolute worst possible person to catch me monkeying around, pun intended.
So he walks right out that door, not three feet under me, notices the camera flash, and says "Oh, I bet you didn't want me in that picture," AND WALKS OFF!!!
HE DIDN'T EVEN NOTICE THAT I WAS SUSPENDED IN THE AIR ABOVE HIS HEAD!!!
This has to be the absolute greatest picture that has been, or ever will be taken at my school! Credit for the photo goes to Max Stoner.
