Wiwaxy Peak @ Lake O'hara

Average Rating = 3.33/5 Wiwaxy Peak @ Lake O'hara

This is Wixay Peak in the evening light. We planned our Lake O'Hara trip just to climb Wiwaxy, but we forgot the guide book and other info we found out about the route in the car 11km below in the parking lot. Luckily the night before we met a couple from Boston and he had climbed the route just 3 yrs before - he gave us some general beta and we went for it anyway ... it was Great not knowing where we were going all day - it added to the adventure! - Photo taken by Tradclimbinfool

Gotta Have One Butt Shot

Average Rating = 2.25/5 Gotta Have One Butt Shot

Reaching for the high flake on a slippery prob that is about 5m from the traintracks dubbed the Caboose as it is the farthest boulder, a whole 1 minute walk!

first problem inside

Average Rating = 2.67/5 first problem inside

This is the first outcrop you come to after walking 50m off the trail into the Hanoi Roxx area at Cathedral. It is short but fun SS on crack/slab face: "Funeral No Parking"

Hanoi's Worst Landing

Average Rating = 2.80/5 Hanoi's Worst Landing

This problem, up the slick crack and straight over the balancing stone, "Lion King" is a not very hard but the top is a touch of commitment as the landing is horrible, horrible, horrible. In other words, not good!

Where to go

Average Rating = 2.67/5 Where to go

Actually already on the first move above the SS of 'Regina Roads' as it starts in a sort of hole, the rock cracks are fun here.

Multiple tries up this slippey problem

Average Rating = 3.00/5 Multiple tries up this slippey problem

One of many tries to get up past the crux on this problem on Cairn Rock. There is a good jug, but it is commiting to the top as the fall is not the best. Very slippery rock. The cave feature to the left has a great V3 problem onto the flat roof(The Chessboard).

3 Steps from the move

Average Rating = 2.50/5 3 Steps from the move

This is move number 2 from a sit-start on the Chessboard. Into second heel-hook now after coming low out of the first:pinch the sides, heel-hook, pinch higher and second heel hook, then grab the lip and grunt over on terrible holds.

Cruise after a good lunch

Average Rating = 2.50/5 Cruise after a good lunch

The Lunch Wall high above the main boulders at Hanoi Roxx Area; out in the open sunshine. Traverse right to left on jugs then up the wall to a tree.

Stop, drop and roll

Average Rating = 3.20/5 Stop, drop and roll

Falling off Shipton Spire at the Hanoi Roxx area. Should have a spotter when bouldering in a tight forest!

Nice paint job

Average Rating = 2.50/5 Nice paint job

Bouldering the slippery Family Rock at Cathedral near the train tracks. Those are 2 red faces painted on the rocks to the right of the climber, very aged looking paint at that. Go up the side pull(seen here) or traverse across the painted faces which is harder.

Short but Bad Landing

Average Rating = 3.00/5 Short but Bad Landing

This fun V0 problem goes up Cairn Rock on the right side over the balancing stone. An almost identical boulder 2 minutes further west has a problem up the left of its' balancing rock called Lion King with an even worse landing. Said that, most of the two dozen problems done thus far at Hanoi Roxx have nice flat landings. Most of the problems have been scrubbed to some degree.

A Slight Bulge

Average Rating = 3.00/5 A Slight Bulge

This is the Yukon Cornelius problem at Hanoi Roxx at Cathedral Boulders. You go over the over vertical face to the top and walk off to the right. Almost everything here has a easy walkoff.
