Pranav on a steep slope

Average Rating = 2.50/5 Pranav on a steep slope

We were approaching the summit of Delusion Peak (18,810 ft.) when suddenly the thigh-deep snow disappeared and there was only a thin crust over a layer of ice. No crampons, no rope, and the glacier is a few hundred feet below - but Pranav is still smiling!

Another sunset

Average Rating = 3.00/5 Another sunset

Camp II on the Dibibokri West glacier, and after a fierce snowstorm in the afternoon, we were treated to a beautiful sunset in the evening when the weather cleared. Taken on slide film with a 300mm zoom.

Rubal Kang and the glacier

Average Rating = 2.50/5 Rubal Kang and the glacier

This is a shot of the upper end of the Dibibokri West glacier. The flat-topped rock peak is called Lal Qila (Red Fort) or the Kulu Makalu. The one with the humped snow ridge and the little rock head is Rubal Kang (meaning Turtle peak in Tibetan), and the small peak on the left is Delusion Peak - sometimes mistaken for Rubal Kang.

Head of the Dibibokri West glacier

Average Rating = 3.00/5 Head of the Dibibokri West glacier

By 7 am we had arrived at the head of the glacier and the sun finally came through the clouds and the falling snow. Check out the beautiful aguille-like Corner Peak (6050m) silhoutted in the centre of the photo. Pic by Pranav.

Delusion Peak

Average Rating = 2.83/5 Delusion Peak

We approached the base of "Delusion Peak" (about 5500m) just as the snow began to fall. It's normally just bare rock, but this year there was a lot of snow - mostly about waist-deep! By the way, the slope isn't as gentle as it looks!

Climbers approaching Base Camp in the Dibi valley

Average Rating = 3.00/5 Climbers approaching Base Camp in the Dibi valley

Here we are on the march to our Base Camp site in the Dibibokri basin. The enormous steep (even overhanging) side walls of the valley kept spitting stones and chunks of ice at us. The Dibi river is far below on the right. Photo by Pranav.
