I don't know if i enjoyed this climb because i am so short or if it was good for everybody. There was an awesome dino to this little hold ontop of the roof. I don't even remember what it was rated..but it was way back in the canyon. Please if you know what it is let me know. If your 5 feet tall and want to climb a fun one this is it.

Look it up, follow the road map, find the country store, head west, over the hills and far away lies a place unlike home, and yet so cozy.

You've already climbed it, bolted it, solo'd it, what else could you do with 300 tons of volcanic hematite, climb it? Run laps? Back stroke.

This is my husband, Mark, on the awesome 11a stem problem Not My Cross to Bear, and another climber on the hard-core 12d A Virgin No More. Penitente was a truely beautiful place to climb.

Lance said, "It's your kind of climb--ignore the fact that your scared." Two minutes later I had lost myself in it, and then it ended too soon. One of the classic redpoints of my 60-year life.

Yami finishing up. The top and bottom gave me the most trouble with the middle section being a cruiser. Great climb! I'm very glad a had the guts to step it up a level.

Obviously this is a must do climb if you go to Penitente. The start is the crux, the rest of the climb is really only 5.9+

We just got back from a four day trip to Pentitente. Whipping Post is one of the first climbs that we ended up doing. Both my wife and I ended up onsighting the climb which really set the pace for the rest of our trip.

This is my first sport climb in Penitente Canyon near La Garita, CO.

My best side... =:o) I salivated over this climb from the time I first saw the full page photo in Climbing Magazine back in the late 1980's. I never dreamed I'd ever get to stand under it, let alone onsight it. Definitely the finest stemming I've ever encountered...

Alex Colville who runs Casa de Madera gift shop and climbing store in Del Norte told me he took one of the Lowe boys (George?) out to climb this one day. When he got to the first bolt he said he'd never been so intimidated on a climb in his entire climbing career. The first time I did it I climbed within a few inches of clipping then climbed down and my second introduced me to "stick clipping". It seemed wrong to do it at the time, but I did it and was glad to have the protection.

This is one of my favorite climbs. A must do if you are in Penintente.
