This pitch is a spectacular long corner crack. Fantastic climbing up the superb, steep and very imposing Cuckoos Nest Buttress on the Ledge.

After scrambling up the India-Venster trail, one is awarded with this grand view of Africa Ledge.

This is the view from the end of pitch two. The route actually allows you to gawk and drool at this magnificent sight the entire time. That's the (in)famous Robben Island out there in Table Bay .... Madiba's prison for 27 years before the end of apartheid. Lion's Head (left) and Signal Hill (right) are in the middle distance, with the suburbs of Sea Point on the sea side, and Tamboerskloof on the other side. The cable car in the forground allows one to enjoy a beer at the tourist restaurant on top, and have an easy trip down, after a good day out on the rock! :-)

Mark at the belay station at the end of pitch two (10). This pitch traverses halfway across the face of the big nose which hangs way above Africa Ravine.

Bells (Chris) stems his way up towards the traverse on pitch two. Already at this point the exposure starts making itself rather well known!

Pitch three (12) goes up a little, then out left again to an awkward little corner, with about 400m of air under the toes!

With Mark attentatively on belay , I discovered the very airy corner halfway up pitch four (12). On that tiny corner, you are surrounded by 90% air, 10% rock! Yeah baby! Pic masterfully snapped by Bells (Chris Bellingham).

We approached Cape Town, South Africa on our ship very early in the morning. As the sun began to rise, we were greeted with this spectacular view of Table Mountain. The rise to the left of Table Mountain is called Devil's Peak.

If only I was a climber when I lived in South Africa! The view of Table mountain from my back door in Vreedehoek.

The sign said "For the slightly insane" and the crew had t-shirts that said "Abseil, Dope on a Rope". How's that for encouragement. Lion's Head is seen prominently in the background. (April 2002)
