This was taken on our roadtrip this past summer. Our first day at Rushmore we met a nice man out for an afternoon's solo who showed us this route. It was a great introduction to Rushmore climbing!

I think it's the correct route, anyway He's at the crux. Mt. Rushmore, SD

This is a picture of the cavity formation. I had just led the route Stormy Night. The date was November 11th 2004. Due to the snow the rock was somewhat slick.

This is Brian's frist climb. Rained a little but the rock dried and we started climbing. Toy Boat is excellent for beginners, but a busy area.

Kenny climbing the first pitch on Waves. Heading up to a belay ledge and it's a nice vertical climb. Great area and out of the sun in the late morning and early afternoon.

This is one of a few routes that are just left of The Waves. A local told me that they aren't in the guide, which is why I couldn't find them... He said they are new from last summer, 2001. This route was maybe a 5.8, bolted with I think 13 bolts. M

Childs Molar is one of the larger rocks at Rushmore, but doesn't see much traffic. Lead Fillings is an excellent 9 sport route, and the bombay chimney is possibly the worst trad route at Rushmore.

Shipyard Rock is one of the two largest rocks at Rushmore, and most routes are 2 pitches. Waves is an area classic for the 5.8 sport climber.

This is me working up Tranquil Evening (5.10a) on Cavity Rock in the Rushmore area. The crux move is just under my feet, I am now in the off-width which I'd recommend taping up for.
