Was out at Hanging Rock Park today (April 9, 05 ) and noticed this nice, new sign. ughh.. another iowa climbing location gone.. sad to see :(

This is a great route! Starts out with a finger sized crack then to a roof. After topping out on the ledge the route continues to just feet from the top of the rock. I would love to lead this crack, but the sandstone is soo soft to hold pro, but just hard enough to climb on. Beware there may be some lose rock.

The hair line crack int the center of the picture is protected by 6 pitons that are rusted and at least 10 years old. To the left of that the a large bulge, I refer to it as cedar ledge because of the cedar tree growing on it.

The route was covered with sand, but the more sand I brushed off the less rock there was.

This is a picture of the lenght of the rock. The walls are 20 to 50 ft tall! This photo is to get people an idea of what the area looks like!
