Allison is cruising through the crux of pitch two of the Whitney-Gilman Ridge. The route was a conga line that day, but everyone was moving along well, and Allison we all made good time. And we all had good times!

Here Matt has just made the crux high step move onto the slab above The Pipe on the Pipe Pitch (5.7). The WGR on Cannon Cliff in New Hampshire features great rock, interesting moves, little puzzles, and exposure and then more exposure! It is all there. Truly an historic, New England classic. Thank you Mr. Whitney and Mr. Gilman, you gutsy bastards!

The photo of the ridge was taken from near the base of Wiessner's Dike. From this view you can get a sense of the amazing exposure experienced on the Pipe Pitch (4th pitch, 5.6) midway up the climb; and the "wrap your hands around the narrow arete" part of the 5th pitch (5.6). For a sense of perspective, if you use your eyes, and perhaps a bit of imagination; you can see the red shirt of a second on the 2nd pitch white spire down low in the photo just above the trees in the foreground.

The first half of the second pitch was mixed climbing, but it got to thin ice above. Pitches 1 and 3 were thick. My second ever ice climb and I got to do the dike. WooHoo.

Greg, Andrei, and Dana (taking photo) prepare to climb the infamous Whitney-Gilman Ridge. Even 30 degree weather couldn't stop us! Amazing views all the way up the only ridge in the northeast. Hugely recommended for anyone visiting NH. Ice and snow gathered on most pitches. It was so cold we had to warm our hands on every move. The last pitch is the crux (a tough overhang with 1500 ft. exposure) - We did it in the dark as the sun quickly descended. Thankfully Andrei (the last one up) had a headlamp. Advice: start early!

A few short days before leaving for CO, Chris heeded the call for one more New England route. Here, he is pulling through the crux of the final pitch of Whitney Gilman.

I actually topped out just fine. This is the top of Whitney Gilman Ridge an awesome 5.7 at Cannon. Full of loose rock, good exposure, and fun climbing. Just leave the giant backpack at home.
