under the roof on bottleneck direct

Average Rating = 3.00/5 under the roof on bottleneck direct

cool pitch, an easy 5.10, very good steming and pro, it may be the 'hard' pitch of the climb but is very fun and a must to increase bottlenecks enjoyment

Emilie Seconds Grillmair

Average Rating = 2.00/5 Emilie Seconds Grillmair

Emilie finishing up the second pitch of Grilmair's Chimneys on Yamnuska, near Calgary. The snow on the ground made for cold feet. Poor Emilie was on her second multipitch ever, and contrary to the bright smile on her face had just surpased her psychological crux of the route.

The Sun Sets

Average Rating = 3.00/5 The Sun Sets

The sun was setting as we started to head down from Grillmair's chimney's. I liked the effect of the sun and the clouds.

Hiking up to Yam

Average Rating = 2.50/5 Hiking up to Yam

This shot was taken shortly after leaving the parking lot headed up to Yam to climb Grillmair. It's a long hike in, but well worth the effort.

Average Rating = 2.00/5 Dave on pitch 2

This is Dave as we get ready to start the second pitch on Grillmair. It kept threatening to rain, but in the end the weather decided to cooperate, and it turned oiut to be a great day for climbing.

Pitch 5 and it still looks like a long way to go!

Average Rating = 3.00/5 Pitch 5 and it still looks like a long way to go!

Dave and I took a breather at the top of pitch 5. It's funny, from the ground it doesn't look all that high, yet 3 hours and 5 pitches later, it still looks almost as far to the top as it did when we started.

Colourful Gear

Average Rating = 3.33/5 Colourful Gear

When I took this picture I was just trying to get some perspective of the height by showing the ground down below, and for some reason everything up close came out bright and colorful, and all of the background is all grey. It was by accident, but I thought it made a pretty cool effect.

Topping Out

Average Rating = 2.50/5 Topping Out

This is Dave topping out of the chimney. It's pretty cool when you come out of the dark chimney through that little hole, and all of a sudden you find yourself on flat ground at the top. I was cursing the shoes attached to the back of my harness a little as a climbed out. It's a pretty tight squeeze and I almost got stuck for a minute.

Here is a photo of my buddy Francis untying after climbing Red Shirt, Yamnuska. I told him he looked like a goof striking a pose like that, but he is too cool and told me to "Just take the damn photo".

Love that twisted rope!

Average Rating = 3.00/5 Love that twisted rope!

Thankfully, as we seem to not know rope handling very well, we are on the exit pitch 7 of Red Shirt as our ropes are somehow in a bad twist around each other.
