We set up base camp in the backyard of Salvador's hacienda. Salvador Campillo is a spanish climber who married a local woman and earns his living by guiding in the pyrenees alps in summer. In winter he joins his wife in Dhaari and climbs Mali sandstone.

Hermien and Chris on the first belay stance on the 'voie de raison' on Wanderdu. We lost our way in this ED- route and had to rappel back down.

The morning of our arrival some local kids came to wake us up and laughed at those crazy white climbers;-)

The setting sun casts the shadow of the hand of fatma on the village of Dhaari and our base camp. This picture was taken from somewhere high on Kaga Tondo's north pillar. In the background you can see part of the Barkoussou and Hombori region.

The normal-route on Wangel Debridu is an 800ft trad climb rated IV+ (about 5.7) and an ideal climb to get used to the rounded holds which are typical for climbing on this type of rock. From the summit we had a magnificent view over the vast desert plains.

This beautiful 2400ft route is probably the longest route on sandstone in the world. It is a 15-pitch climb rated 5.10 (b?) with a very consistent rating (no pitch below 5.8) and no gear installed except for most of the anchors. Cracks are mostly horizont

Heinz, Paul, Hermien and I have reached the summit of this remarkable peak after one and a half day of climbing in the hot desert sun. One of the most remarkable climbs I have done so far!!! You can see the summit plateau of Suri Tondo behind us.
