This belay is just one shy of the top. Very fun dangling the legs while belaying up the second.

The Pedestal

Average Rating = 0.00/5 The Pedestal

Sleep deprived and fatigued, I found myself bonking hard as I took this pic on pitch 4. Led pitches 2-7 powered by a cliff bar and some cigs. Good times.

Taken at dusk outside of our camp. Northern Cali coast line. Can't express the peace I experienced as I listened to the waves and watched the moon rise.

Cool history to this route. Fun to imagine pinkie locks and sketching above micro gear placements while in the safety of your aiders.

This is a beautiful, calf-burning, 3rd class approach. 1,500 feet gained in about three-quarters of a mile.

Starting up the 1st pitch of Silent Running

Average Rating = 0.00/5 Starting up the 1st pitch of Silent Running

After two previous attempts, we finished all seven pitches despite being a party of three. Rapped the last two by headlamp and had an interesting hike out using that same headlamp (black diamond ion) as our guiding light. Beer, please?

curious goat

Average Rating = 0.00/5 curious goat

We were met by about five of these cool creatures at the top of "The Scene is Clean." This guy stood above me no less than two feet away and watched as I belayed up the second. I'm quite sure I could smell his breath.

Ship wreck reflected

There were some fires burning that created the haze in the photo. I like the depth that resulted. Pretty hot that day. Walked out with my first case of heat stroke. Good times.

Not Forgotton

Average Rating = 3.50/5 Not Forgotton

This is a short route-3 bolts/plus anchors. Could be a highball if it weren't for the bad landing zone with potential for a tumble down a steep slope. It cruxes down low and I've seen a couple belayers get fallen on or kicked around. Pockets, crimps, slopers and delicate feet charactarize this route.

This is from my first trip to Smith a few years ago. I love that if you don't mind hiking a little, you can always climb in the shade. Oh, and be nice to the pigeons or they will poop on your rope.

early morning warm up

Average Rating = 3.00/5 early morning warm up

This area of the Northern California coast is spectacular. Due to storms/tides the sand level changes throughout the year creating endless variations of some amazing bouldering. Leave the pad at home and enjoy the sand. Pace yourself as the rock can be pretty rough on the tips.
