roof crack cruxthanks to jen (manat315) for this photo, though it doesn't capture what a wrestling match I made of this "hard 9" roof crack. Are you supposed to kick the key pro, repeatedly? This is said to be a "good intro" to roof cracks, since you place your pro from a good stance before you pull up into the business. I was psyched for the redpoint it after hangdogging the hell out of it following berkly a year ago or so. Herndon's rad for soloing it on the FA - maybe "only" 5.9 but, who knew? The pro's so bomber, too! Same with roof corner, which I haven't even hit yet. Let's call it "preserving the onsight," shall we?

P.O.S. FASean Skedaddling up a probably new, definitely adventurous line on less-than-stellar-looking but actually-not-that-bad rock. The roof is rad and the fun doesn't stop there.

commitment issuesI'll admit it took me a bit, re-fiddling the gear and adding a piece, before pulling the hi-step up onto a sideways smear on fairly polished rock. Fresh resoles helped a bit! Photo by colorado john

john rounding the bendhe'll be drivin' six white horses when he comes . . . Colorado John taking the high road around the corner. Some of us head up there when the going gets real thin feet-wise, just before this point. Juan made it look pretty easy, though. Fun route! Photo by Sean A.

smearpull over small gearJohn snapped this one with Sean's camera, of leinosaur (yo) leading up the 3rd ascent of our buddy Chris' Tarzan Traverse. This was my fourth day climbing out of five between Xmas & New Year's. After seconding the FA on this, I'd been looking forward to the redpoint ever since. Terry & Matt snagged the 2ndA on the FA afternoon . . .

Accidents Will Happen - 75 ft+ 3 bolts = trad!Kicking off an afternoon of family-oriented climbing with Accidents Will Happen, in order to set up a TR for the crew. Fun route, though, and heady when you get, oh, 15-20 feet above that first bolt . . .
Accidents DIDN'T Happen, though.

L o'GG profileNot the sexiest profile shot but typical of this season, so far - following Chris's bold leads up harder and harder stuff - happy to have the belay and the tailwind on my side . . . I think this is right before I FINALLY got my hooks onto the headwall, which succombed to my charms in the end. Another one I look forward to leading . . . on a very good day!

Following the Good GuysYours truly seconding berkly's redpoint of Last of the Good Guys at the fall gathering. This was the crux for me, getting onto the headwall itself. I'll spare you the details but I finally made it up, and the vert section is SWEET. Nice lead, Chris!
