Stacy did a wonderful job of leading this stiff 5.9 located on Mount Scott in the Wichita Mountains of Oklahoma. The route has a scary 10 foot run-out at the crux. She cruised it.

One of the great partnerships in the Wichitas was formed by Jimmy and Jon. Here's a photo of the first ascent of Critical Mass during the fall of 1978. Jon is leading and he managed to really scrape his arm up on the rough rock inside the crack.

Matt on Spaceman Spiff. The route has one bolt and then protects with small cams from 0.3 to 1.5 inches. The finish is a little burly for a 5.10 and very memorable.

Well....here it is! After a long wait, we finally went back for a gander. Bolts are still there. Pins are still there. A couple of draws hang off of the last bolts before the final obstacle...a ten foot horizontal roof with few holds!!! A word of caution..before you go move onto the block at the end of the rail system...test it...the last time I was on it I swear I felt it shift!!!

Pulling on vines on the

Average Rating = 3.38/5 Pulling on vines on the "Tarzan Traverse"

Chris Marks (berkly) doing the first ascent of this fine route. I had been eyeing this thing for years but always thought that it was filled with poison ivy. As Matt and I were trying Corndog, which is located just to the right of the crack, I suggested to Chris that it would make a fine first ascent. He agreed and quickly sent it while stripping the vines out of it as he climbed. This route is very classic. It has a kinda scary "no hands" traverse down low and then a good crux near the end that felt like solid 5.9 to me. Great climb for a guy on his first trip to Crab Eyes!!!

Mammoth Polished Granite

Average Rating = 0.00/5 Mammoth Polished Granite

This is a closeup of the polish on "The Main Rub". I think that this polish is from large land animals rubbing themselves on the rock. Since a lot of the polish extends about 15 feet up, its possible that some of this was caused by mammoths.

Spivy doing a great job leading Last of the Good Guys as the sun sets Saturday at the 2005 Spring Fling. Although he was scared, he did a great job and didn't fall. This part of the climb (after the mantle) involves a 10 foot run-out to the next bolt and can be very intimidating.

Jimmy near top of Love Potion

Average Rating = 3.87/5 Jimmy near top of Love Potion

This route follows a very bold line up the Leaning Tower. Jon Frank did the first ascent many years ago in the mid 1980s but a fixed pin that had protected the crux was gone. Jimmy, Matt, and I spent most of a day hanging around and replacing the old bolts and a bolt where the pin used to be. Then Jimmy sent the route. Ultra steep and hairy...just what Jimmy likes!

Wolfgang Gullich on Clever Lever in 1980. I found out later that you could make this move a lot easier by sticking your left toes under a flake up and left of his left hand and levering out for the next hold with your leg. Duh...the "clever lever"! Oh well...we got it anyway.

Uhhh....no thanks! Wolfgang and I hanging out at the belay under Psycho Roof in the summer of 1980. No matter how hard he tried, he couldn't reach a hold near the lip. I didn't want to do it because I was scared of the runout traverse once you turned the roof!
