Approach from the bivouac place on Col de la Brenva to the beginning of the new route "Éperon Gousseault" in the WSW-face of Mont Maudit. This photo was taken by Ivano Ghirardini.

You can see the normal route through the northflank in ice up to 45 degree.

The rock spur in the middle is Éperon Gousseault, which Ivano Ghirardini and I (Rahel Maria Liu) opened on July 28th, 2002. Difficulty: 5.7 in rock and up to 50 degree in ice. 300 highmeters.

I took this picture of the WSW-face of Mont Maudit with Éperon Gousseault on the descent from Mont Blanc (Bossesridge). In the left corner, you can see Ref. Vallot.

Ivano and I, we made training for the opening of our new route Éperon Gousseault on Mont Maudit in these rocks of Sisteron - with big, crampon-suitable shoes! And it made really fun!! It's me on the picture ...
