Whipper off a mixed 12a

Average Rating = 3.00/5 Whipper off a mixed 12a

Ross Cowan gunning for his send on Eagles Gift aka Va Va Voom couldn't find the clipping hold. Exhausted from searching for a stance and pumped from the gear dihedral and roof below all he could do was stare at the bolt as he melted off.

Swing Town - Shuteye Ridge

Average Rating = 4.15/5 Swing Town - Shuteye Ridge

Grahm working his way out the multi roof system of "Swing Town" 13a on the Aerie formation. After this move a knee bar can be slammed in on the left side followed by a short horribly slopey undercling traverse. At the end of the traverse a huge crux toss off the underclings to a jug await. Then charge out another roof system to a steep headwall.

Average Rating = 4.25/5 Gravity Pool - Shuteye Ridge

Mike is barely visible on the right side of the dome on his new route "Gravity Pool" 12b. He is leaning back with both hands in the air so you can see him. Luckily the white cloud rolled into to frame his silhouette. This new 50 meter sport line climbs the 2 roofs on the right side and then up an amazing 5 foot wide arete to the anchor.

Shape Shifter

Average Rating = 0.00/5 Shape Shifter

Tom Murphy getting the second ascent after barely letting the holds cool after the FA. Shape Shifter 12c - 50m - 17 bolts plus Ring and chain anchor - Clip the first bolt from the top of the boulder using a locker to minimize fall potential.. Scramble back down and climb out the roof and then past the first bolt. An attentive belayer can keep you safe going for the second bolt. Powerful and tricky moves lead to excellent and ever changing climbing terrain above.

Average Rating = 0.00/5 Incapasitator

FA photo of the night send on "Incapasitator". Another great night time bouldering session with lanterns and headlamps. This one is tall with the crux at the top and a horrible pit below the problem waiting to swallow you up. Lots of pads helped but falling is not an option.

Splash Down

Average Rating = 4.73/5 Splash Down

A long slippery traverse that gets steadily harder the higher you get. Justin slipped off just after this shot. Luckily the deepest part of the water is directly below the boulder. You still gently touch the bottom after splash down though. What do you all think? If you touch the bottom on a water solo should it be called a DWS "Deep Water Solo" or a SWS "Shallow Water Solo"...

Squaw Leap V3 Shallow Water Solo

Average Rating = 4.50/5 Squaw Leap V3 Shallow Water Solo

Justin Ross attempting the intimidating "Squaw Leap". After discovering this beautie I quickly decided it was too dangerous for me as the murky water only allowed 2 feet of visibility to check for submerged boulders. Also January temps make for COLD water! Justin sacked up and went for it after removing his wallet and extra clothes in case he didn't make it. After scetching up the off hands crack he maxed out on a slopey knob high off the water and just below the top. We all screamed for him to hang in there but a split second after the photo he was falling toward an unknown fate. After 20 feet of air he disappeared into the river for awhile. Luckily he popped back up after lightly hitting a submerged boulder deep under water. It still awaits a send and we have all agreed that top roping is out of the question, only a ground up FA will do. Good try Justin!!!

Average Rating = 4.55/5 Cracker v6

Classic problem. Start under the boulder and climb out the horizontal roof crack and then up the steep face to a bouldery finish. The first day of efforts left us with scabs on our hands for a week from the steep hand jamming. This time we went prepared with tape and not a drop of blood was spilled.

Cool waters run deep

Average Rating = 4.00/5 Cool waters run deep

Jeremy sticking the crux throw of the uber classic "cedar wright left" v3. A long steep rail system leads to a big airy toss and a commiting finish over the top. A large river pool behind the boulder can rise and swamp out the landing zone and increase the danger for pitching off depending on river volume.

Head Pointing

Average Rating = 3.86/5 Head Pointing "Hanging 30"

The story behind this one... There is an easy highball up the left side of this arete to get to the point at the top. There is also a roof line straight up the middle which was calling my name. About 20 feet up you hit the roof section with good holds but then you have to do a huge chuck over a lip to a hidden jug. Not wanting to back slap from 20 feet I decided to "Head Point" the rig. 2 small wires in the roof with dubious placements and a 20 minute plea to my belayer to let me do it (he didn't want to be involved if the wires snapped or pulled) and I scored the FA! Looking forward to the solo next...
