Description:
A classic scramble on one of the most often climbed 14ers in the Front Range. Follow the standard Grays and Torreys trail for 2 miles until you are nearly due south of the Torreys-Kelso Mountain saddle. Follow a narrow trail north to the saddle, passing an old mine, and head west up the ridge. Much of the route is obvious due to the climbers' trail and only handful of scrambling sections are encountered. The crux is found a few hundred feet below the summit. The hardest climbing is easy Class 4 if the true crest of the ridge is followed and Class 3 if you skirt the steepest sections on the right or left. This is one of the finest short mountaineering routes near the Denver area but aproach it with caution as the Kelso Ridge has seen some accidents.
