Description:
Deep Freeze ice climb is hidden and to the left of the big OH on North Fase of Thatchtop, above a deep chimney that can be passed on the right; or approached by doing Necrophilia. We did a two pitch approach on the right, the sloping snow covered traverse did not protect well at its start, tricams or maybe iron would've worked better. After these two pitches its 180 meter slog to WI3 pitch of ice below the Roof. This takes you to the base of the money pitch, only half is visible as the route squeezes through a slot at the top of the roof. A great rest can be had just before this slot. Like all great climbs this route offers a good challenge , the climbing changes from a steep beginning to chimney-like middle to a open finish. Ralph said it looked a lot different. This season the ice at the start is glued to the corner so it was OH hook moves.

Wild ride
We made it up this on our second attempt. The route lives up to its name (very cold) and has some wild terrain. We did the direct start--right up the chimney! Wild! On the first attempt my partner took a whipper in the chimney. That's right, a whipper in a chimney with ice gear on. Not something you want to do everyday.
