Description:

Climb the first 4 pitches of the East Buttress to the base of the bolt ladder. From there, rather than climbing the 10c (aid ladder), head up and right 15' on scalloped, featured rock past a bolt to a short finger crack and small roof. Above the roof, a 5.6 face is protected by 3 bolts and a 2 bolt belay is reached. p2 face climbs a tiny blank corner to intersect the traverse pitch of the East Buttress at the fixed pin. The 5.10a pitch is pretty casual by valley standards.

5 out of 5 stars Beautiful

Gorgeous location, stunning views of El Cap. 6 pitches with a 70m. 70m also made the raps down go in 2. Dry, mellow descent. Could've brought a single rack, maybe double on smaller to hand sizes. Perfect autumn day in both sun & shade. At least 7 parties on it, on a Friday... passed the party in front via this variation.

4 out of 5 stars off route again.

note: make sure you head left after bolts on this variation. Straight up looks solid (and it is) but it will put you about 30 ft out without pro before you get to the belay station. (fun but definitely a bit heady)

5 out of 5 stars Easier Alternative to Regular route

Enjoyable climbing. A late start will give you more time in the shade.
