The bottom of the route, like the rest of the routes in Carderock, is slippery. Fun route though. The top is the crux.

Tricky start on the layback. Once you are off the ground, the key is to jam your LEFT foot into the first notch of the flake and flag out with right - intuition says to jam the right foot, but can't avoid barndoor if you do. Carderock is notoriously sandbagged - this is more of an 8/9 than a 7 (at least the start is).

Fun.

Found this harder than 5.7, especially at the bottom with the polished rock. The guidebook also has this at 5.8.

Tough start, yep, polish is the word for Carderock. Began at the left then worked my way to the right and up. Fun climb!

first time being at carderock but rock seemed polished as hell or that might just be the way it was formed but still loved this climb

Did this from the left of the flake. It was a footwork problem and balancing, at least for me (shorty). Could not get friction at all when I tried to start with a layback on the flake.

Fun climb at Carder, lots of ways to play with this one.
