Just found this site while looking for info on bivi bags. One of the best sites I've found so far, but have no idea who's running it or why? Check out this piece:- http://www.psychovertical.com/?bigsleep anyone got any other suggestions for sites like this?

Just found the gallery pages. Some poor shots made great by a few choice words, and nice change to the usual climbing images. http://www.psychovertical.com/?images Has this guy posted on this site before? Does anyone have his e-mail? I've tried mailing him but his contact panel doesn't work. Thanks Mandy

Great stuff - His rack advice (in the technique section) is pretty damn spot on - Every new climber should at least read it for perspective - It's great advice.

The guy is Andy Kirkpatrick. He's a Brit, who contributes to the UK mags quite a lot. Specialty is suffering on big, cold routes, often solo. One of the best lecturers on the UK circuit - very funny. I'll post his contact details when I get back to work on Monday. Regards Simon Marsh DMM

Many of these essays were published by Kirkpatrick as part of a column in "High Mountain Sports." I'm not sure if it was just a website or also a magazine. But anyway it's now defunct. I had downloaded "The Art of Not Suffering" (originally called "The Art of Suffering" which I think is a better title) but missed getting the other essays before HMS when under. So I'm glad they're again available. Andy himself had originally pointed me to the Art of Suffering. I had posted a question on RC.com about being cold all the time and Andy answered. So if you do a search, I think you'll find his contact info. Oh, buy the way, since reading "The Art of Suffering" I'm no longer cold. He knows what he's talking about. Chouinard sponsors him amongst others. So you can find more info about him at the Patagonia site. There was a great picture of him on one of his winter walls in a catalog last winter. In case you can't tell, I'm a fan. Best, Kim

In reply to: Many of these essays were published by Kirkpatrick as part of a column in "High Mountain Sports." I'm not sure if it was just a website or also a magazine. But anyway it's now defunct. Psychovertical.com contains his most revelant "papers" (for lack of a better word) on alpine/rock/big wall "systems", techniques and gear reviews. Nevertheless, all his content from the now defunct High Mountain website (yes Kim, it was also a British paper mag which now has been replaced by Climb Magazine) can be found in the Articles section of www.planetfear.com under "High Mountain Articles". I have downloaded most of them, specially the alpine climbing ones, as they contain great tips for the aspiring fast & light alpine climber but appealing to mere mortals with more than 30 heart beats per minute. It's a "Twightesque" approach for 9-to-5-job type of people. Enjoy!

I like all the jokes that I completely don't understand.
In reply to: ...my rack was barer than Jordan on a night out in Soho.
In reply to: ...all four loops were crammed tighter than a Ryanair flight to Barcelona. Maybe it's a British thing. I dunno. dev
