Do you have the copyrights to that picture? Other than that, it's a great bit of selfindulgence.

2 of those pics came from Climbing or Rock & Ice mag, one was taken from this site. Trevor has asked that people contact him prior to copying these pics. Did you do that ??? One of the pics you even used for your profile. rrrADAM [ This Message was edited by: rrradam on 2001-10-05 17:33 ]

climb512, you seem to know nothing about how businesses and the Internet work. Stealing other people's images and using them on your site is not allowed. Every single piece of printed material, be it physical, or digital, has a copyright notice attached to it. rrr was merely pointing out the obvious. You need to calm down, grow up, get educated, and then respond. Until then, you should remain quiet. iclimb512s...be careful with images that are not your own and how you use them.

i suggest you find alternative photographs ASAP. or you could have WRITTEN consent from the photographer or the publishers of the images you just used.

"its not like he is commercializing his site" In this case I don't think it's about money but rather about respect and giving credit where cretid is due. How would you like it if I made a site exactly like yours? There are many things I didn't know about the law and photography. For instance..I didnt' know I couldn't take a picture of a building and publish it...I could find all kind of excuses but the law is the law and having a bad attitude towards the properties of others is not nice. It's more like an insult. Most of the times you can gain more by simply asking nicely or saying "I didn't know"...." Peace Ray

Whatever picture YOU take is yours. You may do with it as you please. Most of this is basically ethics... You don't take what is not yours... if you are using those pictures on your site I suggest you ask permision (not from this site) but from the photographer. This site has nothing to do with the pictures unless a member from here took the picture and sold them rights to it. This is not the case, it is taken from a climbing mag probably without permission and put on this site (plagerised)... this has happened many times before. Just ask the photographer, he or she probably won't care unless they have sold picture rights to someone. But definately credit them for the photo (eg. photo taken by so and so)... if you do not it is plagerism and you stand chance of prosecusion. It would be a silly way to get in trouble from the law. Photographers are just like anyone else... they are nice and will let you use their pictures from time to time. Hope this helps. Andy [ This Message was edited by: andy_lemon on 2002-03-17 16:41 ]

Did you know its also illegal to posts someones picture on the net if you do not have written consent? I learned that in web page design class. if they do not sign, you must white out the face. Also I believe I read on this site somewhere that using this sites pictures was ok by trevor, just as long as you say you got them from here and link back to here. edit: Also it is illegal to hyperlink to a site if you do not have their permission. And another thing, you cant use clipart unless you have artists permission. you can Only use free clipart or stuff that you buy or comes with front page. other wise using clipart is illegal. some old lady got sued because she didn't know any better and used it anyway. poor old people. That is mistaken, you must have permission from the poster of the image to use it. Merely linking back to our site is not enough.

Your link to "gallary.html" is broken. But the original site came up fine. And, dude, you're too hardcore for rockclimbing.com. You need to post up on Spiderman.com, or something. You're making the rest of us look bad. Keep up the good work.

But if someone does take and use pictures not belonging to them what can you do? Send them an email, they say no and thats it. I had this problem with three sites that took my flicks and used them. Since then I put a watermark on all the flicks, they can still take them but my web address is on it, if the crop it out they cutr out the best bit of the flick

It does take way too damn long to load. Does it really qualify as a sight? It more a page than a sight. [ This Message was edited by: earsen on 2002-07-28 19:51 ]
