nothing wrong with that... So here is the first line of apparel. More is on the way, and once I get some pics of pretty people wearing the gear, the site will be a little more fleshed out. The goal here was to make some cool designs that wouldn't cost an arm and a leg to purchase. I like Prana as much as the next guy, and Khadeja is nice...but sometimes I want something just a little different. Check it out, let me know what you think (or even, oh, I don't know, maybe buy something? ). More stuff is on the way. Climbers Union

Admittedly so...this was only the first offering. I'm still toying around with some ideas and trying to get them to look right. Any suggestions?

Here's some input.... I don't like clothing that says 'Climb' or 'Climber'. Too obvious. Tee's with stylistic designs of gear, e.g. cams, nuts, are cool.

There's a typo on the front page. You wrote "your" instead of "you're" in the description for the women's section.

Your shirts that say climber in Japanese are not kanji shirts, as climber is spelled out in katakana, not kanji.

Black and white are horrible colors, if you like to take pictures on climbs. Not everyone is going to make the cover of a climbing mag, but just about everyone brings a camera with them when they climb. If these people want good photos (and everyone wants good photos), they'll be wise to wear warmer colors (yellow, orange, red). Since I learned this, I decided to never pay money for a black or white t-shirt again. Unfortunately the Access fund keeps sending them to me. Something to think about.

The cheesy little "jokes" leading to the different sections is kinda lame at best. $20 for a white T-shirt with single color printing... something that anyone with a printer, iron, and $7 for some Avery transfers could make is a little (read: a lot) excessive. You're starting off like you own a label that people want to wear. You have to hook a fish before you can reel them in. If you don't have a selling point (e.g. humorous shirts, better yet - something original) you would probably need to sell them cheap, if not give them away, to get started. Once you have a base of loyal customers you can jack up your prices and piss people off. I think the saying on the front page sums up where you're coming from, and who you're trying to sell to: Climbing isn't easy. If it was, everyone would do it. But they don't. Let them know what you do.

In reply to: Black and white are horrible colors... Black is the absence of color and white is all the colors combined, the shirts on the other hand seem to be kinda tacky.

I agree with everyone about there being too much balck and white. When I first started putting everything up, I was still experimenting with how to upload everything, etc. I was alos reminding myself how to use Photoshop (I hadn't used it in many years). I also wanted to get a departure from the "typical" climbing shirt...though I am not so sure how successful I was with that. And it has been commented to me that the one that says "Climb" looks a bit like "CUMB"...unintentional porn, I guess. Thanks for all of the feedback. And THANK YOU to whomever just bought the t-shirt...that was the first!!! Thanks!

I'm with most of the comments. 1) You need more colors, and white sucks (gets dirty too fast). 2)The word "climb" and the image of the climber are way too blatant. Seems like only a noob would buy it. 3) Japanese characters seem really dated to me. My 2cents (for what it's worth)... Get some more girly tank tops for your women's section (thinner strap variety), and more colors (as everyone has mentioned). Get some better graphics. Things that are stylized and not too obvious appeal to a wider customer base. Any sort of printed word (unless it's really clever) is generally a death knell for me buying something.

Shameless self promotion that is also a tiny bit against the TOS. But, since folks seem to be into this, I'll give you the thread. I have to move it to a different forum, though, sorry. Don't worry, it'll still refer to the front page.

okay - a lot, I mean a lot of people have done this exact same thing and asked for advice. Frankly, I think your site and concept is lazy, uncreative, and poorly thought out. Laziness is just a result of the internet and sites like cafepress allowing people like you an easy way to mass produce crappy shirts at crappy prices. This tends to lead to a lack of creativity - hey it's so easy, why should I think of an imaginative design? Finally, it seems like you never stopped to think: what does the market really want? Anyone who's been around climbers knows that they don't wear shirts that read "climber." Take a step back. Take in some of the feedback. Take some time to look at what really good design is about (I recommend glancing at threadless.com) - no one wants a shirt designed by a guy struggling to re-learn photoshop. If you're going to do this and sell any shirts then you're going to have to take some time and provide something memorable and different. Oh yeah, drop the buttons - way too 1968 (yet, in your case again, sans any imaginative design). This is just honest feedback.

In reply to: Doesn't it suck that all of those other climbing companies charge so much for their stuff? I mean, come on, 30 bucks for a T-shirt? yeah, that sucks. but so do 18 dollar white shirts. i know a lot of people have gotten on the black and white bashing bandwagon...for good reason. and i can't seem to find any rational for your price structure... 15.99 for a white shirt with the red, white and blue logo, and right next to it, a black one, same logo, for 21.99. makes no sense. tells me there's something up with the quality of the shirts themselves...before the get the printing.

I think you offerings are pretty darn generic. I like the "Climbers Union" logo, but you may want to consult with the NBA about it and make sure they're not going to sue your ass for trademark infringement, sorry but conceptually it looks like you totally bit the NBA logo. Think about more spaghetti strap sport bra kinda stuff for the ladies. I would ditch the japanese character thing too but that' just me. Now I am just going to... http://www.godlikeproductions.com/...smilies/qsdmpnqf.gif

Let's step back here for a second. "Re-learn photoshop"? I find it hard to believe he ever knew it in the first place. Thanks for the threadless.com link, that place is great. I needed to get some new T's.

Just checked out the "fun stuff" link on the bottom of your Shamelessly Self Promoted website. You inspire me with your cartooning style, I especially like the third or fourth cartoon down. I was going to link to the image of it to help your promotion but I didn't want to get banned from RCCOM. Made me blush like a little girl.

I'll say something nice! The shirts aren't bad. As for colors, I suppose you may be doing all black and white because of your equipment limitations until you make more cash to support your business. Everyone's gotta start somehwere, right? Being critical doesn't make you sound smart or mature unless it's for the right reason (i.e., not just for putting others down). I'll always be critical about a person who lies but expects me to believe them one more time. That's where being critical is smart! As for those who are criticizing for no reason, if you can do so much better, why aren't you making T-shirts? If you don't like them, don't buy them. But for Pete's sake, don't rip another climber for trying to make money doing something they love. Good luck on your venture! GT
