Ha! I actually remember that show. I might actually have that on VHS somewhere. At the time 92-93 or so there were lots of shows like that on. I remember one on ESPN I think that had a real cheesy dude and a hot blonde and they did some climbing segments. I know for sure that I have that one on tape. I remember they had a segment about Mountain biking in Moab and that was funny watching something dated like that.

It looks like the whole episode is on Google video: http://video.google.com/...ing+joshua+tree&so=0 It's a fun video--reminds me of when I first started crawling around J-tree. That was around '92 or '93. Some movie magic happening there when they camp in the backcountry of Lost Horse, then Paul takes him around the corner to Gunsmoke.

In reply to: Gets you pumped watching him pull 5.6 moves!!!! The Boulder problem he is doing is a 50 to 60 ft. 5.11+ traverse called Gunsmoke, located in the Barker Dam area of JT. I've seen Paul Born do laps on that problem without stopping. Shanz wrote:anchors were kinda freaky -In reply to: Paul and I were regular climbing partners in the 80s and early 90s, and he was a very safe climber. I've trusted his anchors many a time, like he's trusted mine. The climb he was setting up with anchors is on the East face of Thin Wall. It's a pretty fun 10a, and when I go back there frequently to do it, I still set up the anchors the same way that's in the video. Since I'm a gear whore now, and I have a vast amount of lockers, I use them now rather than opposing biners. Cosmiccragsman

Busted. We occasionally avoided letting the facts get in the way of a good story, especially since we only had 26 minutes in which to tell it. That's Hollywood...

Great stuff, John, thanks! I'd always enjoyed that series on PBS when it came out. Own a few of them. The Zion Canyoneering vid is pretty cool. Looks like it was pieced together from about 4 different locations. Dennis is a character... Thought I noticed you in SLC at the OR...but, can't recall what booth... Cheers! -Brian in SLC

That was actually a pretty cool video. I'm sure it fulfilled its intention. So what was wrong with those anchors?
