I'm leaving for the arctic circle tomorrow and I was wondering if anybody knows of a good spot to do some ice climbing around Rovonimi Finland? Or would it be to much of a hassle to take my tools?

Yes, I know. The best spot for ice climbing in Finland is not too far from Rovaniemi, it's called Korouoma, and located in Posio. I have several articles about the spot, including Google maps directions + descriptions of different falls, plenty of images (quite a few even from few weeks back) etc. on my blog. If you're willing to go a bit further, roughly 4h drive you might get to Northern Norway, which is a definitive spot for ice climbing. Tamok Valley, Skibotn Fjord + Ljyngen has plenty of 200-350 meter falls including all difficulties. My blog has also a few articles bout that direction. For Korouoma you might be interested of seeing following articles: 1. http://www.climbingextreme.com/...ng-of-the-season/689 - Few images from Korouoma few weeks back 2. http://www.climbingextreme.com/...ips-for-korouoma/618 - Few practical hints for Korouoma, though I doubt that they're usefull right now (there should be too much snow already) 3. http://www.climbingextreme.com/...mbing-in-finland/300 - Gives a pretty detailed description of Korouoma. 4. http://www.climbingextreme.com/...trip-to-korouoma/266 - Just a generic trip article from Korouoma For Northern Norway you might be interested of reading following articles: 1. http://www.climbingextreme.com/...ng-in-spansdalen/480 - About Spansdalen 2. http://www.climbingextreme.com/...rd-valley-norway/416 - About Kåfjord 3. http://www.climbingextreme.com/...rs-trip-to-norway/56 - About Tamok If you need any more information just ask, or contact me through my blog.
