Not a wall climber but I have a wall hammer and just wondering what exactly is the purpose of the funkness hole?

If you attach a wire cable to that hole and clip that wire to a piton, you can develop enough force when you swing the hammer away from the pin to pull the pin clean out.
This is a process called "funking".
