Why do people boulder? I'm interested in seeing why people boulder short routes instead of multi pitch or roped climbing. Please answer the poll above or comment on something different. Thank you :)

I have few friends and I tend to drop/let go of those rope & clippy things Wink

Na, There's alot of bull crap floating around the climbing community (Here anyway) Like provado with grades etc.
I find the people I boulder with care less about looking cool and more about climbing & having fun.
Bouldering feels more free & fun to me, more about the moves, friends & locations. For me anyway.
Also why not?
(ps - I don't only boulder anyway, made my first trad route this summer!!)
pps - I'm not good at any of it!! Cool

Dunno why, when I am thinking about what to do it seems to just pop out as the most appealing option. Not sure why. I guess it's fun to just concentrate on the moves. Trad/alpine etc. is more of an adventure, but I'm not always in the mood for adventure (as much as I hero-worshiped MacGyver when I was younger).

Even though i do boulder, i prefer roped climbing. I think i like the adventure over the difficulties of bouldering. No matter if its sport, trad, alpine, ice or whatever, i climb because it is climbing. I have the same love for the sport even if its a 10 foot boulder problem or a 250 foot trad climb. Climbing is climbing

I think your poll is flawed. I DON'T boulder because I don't feel safe falling 15 feet or more to the ground.

I have talked to some people and they said they like it because its "safer" but I don't know. I see what you mean though.

There should be an entire poll option labeled "Hueco Tanks"

That there isn't shows you are so far away from understanding bouldering its laughable.

You should also have an option labeled "Cause I don't want to tie in" but if Hueco is there nobody would use it.

Nope, this is me, always has been, if you don't like me don't read my replies.

And I reiterate Hueco Tanks is Bouldering, until you have climbed there you can NEVER truly understand why people boulder.

I boulder in the gym when I don't have a partner available. A couple of times I've bouldered outside to be social.
