Actually, phil_nev, Mike Doyle is Canadian , plus, he's a very modest person which is probably even more reason you haven't heard of him. He rocks too! [ This Message was edited by: skrunchamunch on 2002-07-04 12:39 ]

It's amazing how somethings get blown out of proportion. The route was globe-trotters 5.13d, although I have redpointed Dinosaur Highway. And the hardest route in Canada so far in Sonnie's "Superman" at 14c. It hasn't been repeated (to my knowledge, give it a month) so the grade is still not fixed. It is normal for people who are planning on publishing a photo of someone to ask for a model release contract. Personally I like to know when photos of me are being published, and for what purpose. I also like to have some control over how they are published. I was not offended or upset that verticallaw took the pictures I just wanted to let him know that I would be upset if he made money off them without asking my permission (no I have never asked for a 'cut', I don't think climbing mags pay enough). That's it. Have fun out there.

Legally speaking, use of a celebrity's image or likeness without their consent violates copyright law (you have to wait 100 years after they're dead, according to current precedent). But what makes a celebrity? If they're a sponsored climber, wildly famous, immediately recognizable and their likeness is used to promote and advertise a product, they're probably a "celebrity". If you take photos of some guy who once got a pair of shoes in exchange for an ad, then maybe not. Try this: do whatever you want with the photos. If you get a notice from someone that your photos infringe their copyrights, stop. They can't sue you unless you knowingly infringed. And you can't know that until they tell you, nicht whar? There is no way they can sue you without notifying you first. So, go ahead and shoot. And post. Some people like to think that they're famouse before their fifteen minutes is scheduled. They're not.

I hope it gets down graded to 14b. It's not really even a sport climb, more like a highball. No one takes the hardest route away from Alberta! Long Live Existance Mundane! -Jeremy

Whoa, A topic like this was just recently in the papers. Did you ever see that late night info-mercial Girls Gone Wild??? Where the video shows girls in wild situations like Mardi Gras and Spring Break. They are shown in all sorts of compromising positions. A class action suit was filed against the guy who filmed them. He put the tape together and has made a bundle of cash on it. The class action suit was filed on behalf of all of the girls in the video as they never gave consent for them to be filmed. Guess what boys and girls... The court sided on behalf of the guy who shot the video. Anytime you are in a public place. You can be filmed and that film can be published with or without your consent. Pretty scary huh

Sorry Jeremy, Superman probably won't be downgraded. Also if you think that a problem with 20 draws, over 80 moves and 30 metres long is a highball, I'm never going bouldering with you. You are probably thinking of Silent Menace, in which case I agree with you but I'm happy with the rope.
