I had fun in colorado this past weekend competing in both the JIBS and also the ABS nationals, though the differences between the comps astounded me. The ABS Nationals at the Spot was one of the best run comps I've ever been too, and the JIBS nationals at Rockn and Jamin 1 was one of the worst organized. The most astonishing thing which occured at the jibs nationals was the miscalculation of my score following qualifiers. They had placed me first, although I knew that I had gotten to significantly lower holds than a few of my counterparts. I filed a complaint after talking to another competitot in my category to confirm my confusion at my placement. I was given back a statement claiming no error had been made in my score, that it was indeed correct. Later that day I found out from one of my teammates that had stayed at that gym for the afternoon that my placement had been reduced to 8th. I felt that the correction to my score had been made, and i was still in finals, so I dropped the issue. The resulting issue turned out to be that the judges had somehow misread a 4 as 14 on my scorecard, placing my final attempt on a problem at the 14th hold, which didn't even exist. Just imagine if that had happened during finals, what would happen if the person it happened to wasn't honest about the error, or how devestated a kid could be after hearing that he had been reduced to 8th place, following an official statement claiming otherwise. That is not the way to run a comp.
