Hey everybody, The 2006 TEVA Mountain Games in Vail are fast approaching and it's about time to give you the lowdown. The event is always a great time and you're all invited to attend and compete. The big news is the purse -- it was upped to $16,000. $10,000 is going to the bouldering event, where a new finals format will debut featuring practice sessions and no isolation. Also, for those amateur and pro photographers out there, the TEVA Games is holding their annual Photo Contest with a $5,000 purse. Entries are due soon -- check the website for submission details. I've posted a bunch of info below. The complete schedule and format descriptions are also posted at www.TEVAMOUNTAINGAMES.com. Definitely contact me with any questions. It's gonna be a blast -- see you there! For Qualifiers, everyone will climb on #1 before moving to #2, with 2min per person per problem. Scoring is per-hold with bonuses for making "useful movement" and "touching the [useable] of the next hold". There are 4 total problems and between #2 and #3 the field gets cut to 6 competitors. Practice -- Friday Comp -- Saturday Purse -- $10,000 ($2,500 $1,000 $700 $500 300) Dyno There will be 25 scored two-stage dynos to pick from, many with included tricks (180, 360, step-up, etc). There will also be a panel of expert judges that will render a score between 5 and 10 for "execution" (climbing smoothly and solidly). Your score is 75% difficulty, 25% judge panel. Climbers are arranged into a rotation and given 30sec to complete a dyno. Three rotations, scored by your best two. Top 5 advance to Finals, using the same format. Practice -- Friday Comp -- Sunday Purse -- $3,000 ($1,000 $300 $200) Speed There will be two long, traversing problems on opposite sides of the boulder. Time begins when your foot leaves the ground, and ends when you hit a bell or button. You get two runs on each line during Qualifiers, and your score is the sum of your best on each line. The top 8 climb head-to-head tournament-style in Finals.
