At a comp is it fair for people who are short the climb in the same deviion as taller people. I only just thought about this because I am tall. Wouldent it be easier for tall people to reach high holds.

There are advantages and disadvantages to being tall. Sit starts are harder, as well as some scrunchy moves as well as undercling problems. Of course, it also increases your reach, so a long reach for a tall person might be a dyno for a short person. That being said, at comps they try to make the routes fair for people of all heights. yeah i get tweeked sometimes cause other people can go static on stuff i have to dyno just 3 inches to. but then you get better at dynoing and you kick the tall guys around when you both have to dyno btw the best boulderer i know is really short like me; just get stronger.

Yeah, I'm short and I have no real drama's in competitions, because the routes have to be set fairly. I do have issues with a couple of route setters in my gym though, because they are both 6foot, or there-a-bouts. They have no problem setting for most of the folks but I've had to ask them on a few occasions to remember the little people. Cheers Elk

i think route setters think better than we do and they have more options for the shorter people than the taller ones.thinking smart is the only thing that makes diffrence rather than height.

Personally, i like the reachy moves. Probably cos i'm about 6'3. But then again, you can get some short routsetters who set cramped problems, which is hard for me, as i have to find places for my huge legs to go. A good routesetter will set problems somewhere in the middle.

not all the time. some routes a tall person might be so schrunched up they they cant climb it, where a smaller person can just walk up it.

Once in the gym I climbed at back home had this bouldering competetion, where in one of the problems the crux was this awkward 18-inch dyno onto this heinous pinch. One of the competitors, 6' 3," staticed it. As long as a comp has both types of problems of similar point values it's all good...there's no way to make a problem fair for everyone.
