Does anyone think that the ratings at the BRC are a little soft? I went to Boulder to visit my family for the holidays and the ratings seemed very easy. At my local gym (Rocks and Ropes) it takes me a few tries along with a few falls to get up a 5.9. At the BRC I onsighted three 5.9s with no falls. What gives?

Absolutely. BRC seems a grade or two off. Paradise and Thrillseekers seem to have stiffer ratings that are more consistent with my experience on real rock.

Rock'n & Jam'n's grades seem to be off also. A friend took me there when I was visiting last month. I can normally onsight 5.9/5.10. I know it wasn't an "on" day for me when I walked up several .11's and fell twice on a 5.12-. Those be some ego boosting grades there.

Nothing wrong with a little ego boosting.

I usually climb at Paradise, and I really like that they have the ratings up on a wall and out of the way of the climbs. I used to think it was annoying having to go look up the ratings, but now I just climb any climb and I never look at what it's rated. It's nice to just climb and not have any pre-concieved notions about how hard it should/should not be.

Agreed, ego boosting isn't all bad just as long a person doesn't take his/her new found confidence outside the relative safety of a gym and get into trouble on real rock.
