Building Permit

Well, My climbing wall will have to be in the back. And, in order to get the permit, this thing is going to have to look asthetic or it isn't likely to get approved. Hm. I was thinking...does bondo do okay outside? I've never worked with it before. Can it be dyed to look like natural rock? If I can make it fit in with the natural environment I think there's a good chance I'll get the nod on building it. :D

It will also have to be weather resistant. Hm. Any tips?

About holds...I've never thought before about what makes a quality hold as far as shape. You usually use whatever is in front of you, real or plastic. Might be a disk or a suitcase handle, or something that looks like a mini boulder growing out of the slab...I'll make maybe a jug or two, I liked the idea of using a double mold for this (thank you) and also some smaller stuff. I want to train a little bitty buddy of mine. He'll need jugs for a while. Any tips?

Thanks! :D

Don't know about the bondo thing, but you can do great with some chicken wire and cheap stucco... pretty much any color you want.

Bondo is solid, if you want something that shapes well and is just as bomber use the Napa ultralite filler, paints well, sands easy, can take weather harsher than your house can.

Oh Yea,

Well, before I answer that I have to forgive you for locking my thread, which I can't do until I...: :P

There. I forgive you.

OH, IT'S GONNA BE SO AWSOME, MAN! TOTALLY 'CITED! (about 25 feet long.) Well, it depends. I have to pick a spot for it, and the spot I like most has the least trees. I need trees to cover the thing, but the places with the most trees have other obstructions. Hm. They already shot down our last rec project-no permit. :x But the guy giving us the most grief retired! :D

Those sound like great ideas, guys! I'd probably need to cover the wire with something. Do y'all think a couple adjustable roofs are over the top? (No pun intended!)

Hey man if you're gonna make it... make it just how you want it. Take the time to be able to work out and have fun. I plan on just doing it directly on the blind side of a house... lol good for 25 feet or so

fiberglass is another good material, although more expensive, but fun. I'd use that over bondo type stuff, because the resin is stronger and more durable, plus the fiberglass itself is very strong - and will be lighter then bondo too. Plus, the resin is much like pancake syrup, you can even mix in some sand n stuff to get some grit. And yes, you can DYE fiberglass resin too! You can buy clear resin and dye it any color you want.

Hmm. *muttering to self; don't mind me* If I want adjustable roofs, I'd need to affix pins to the sides of both the roof and the main wall, but b/c it's plywood, it wouldn't hold well. That would mean I'd need a metal frame, or maybe just a bracket to hold the pin, and it can be afixed from the front and back-more durable. Then a piece of metal the width of the plywood, maybe, what-18" long? with a hole on the bottom to fit the peg on the main wall, and a slot at the other end, adjoining a series of notches. The notches at the top, so the weight of the climber holds the peg securely in place. Does that work? :? Of course, to affix the roof on the other side or to have multiple roofs, I'd have to have spaces between the panels...hm. Not sure I like that...unless I somehow hang the roof from the top rather than have a bracket supporting it from the side. *drumming fingers with contemplation* Not sure I like the idea of hanging the roof from atop, although the roofs, when not in use, could be flattened for a higher wall. :D
