I have lots of climbing holds for my woodie and some of them have gotten preatty dirty. Either caked on chalk or just black foot marks. I was wondering if there is a way to clean them? Is it as easy as running them under water? I want to keep the same texture that it has, but just touch em up some. Any suggestions?

My gym washes the holds in their dishwasher with regular dishwashing liquid. They are as good as new when they are done! No texture lost or anything.

my gym washes holds in a solution of 1 part hydrochloric acid (pool acid) 4 parts water for 30 minutes, then neutralizes that with Baking powder (takes several doses, till it stops foaming)...and they are golden.

i imagine that the dishwasher thing would work as well...

I used to set routes at a gym that did the weak acid soak. It worked great. They always warned us not to leave them in the acid for more than a day. I never did and don't know if it would actually hurt them.

As prevention is always better than treatment, I would say to use less chalk. Chalk is ideal to dry wet hands, but allow less friction on holds. So use it sparsely, and clean your route with a toothbrush after each climb.
