I'm a student in college and we having a climbing club. We also run a rock wall at the rec center and were looking into getting new holds for the wall as many of them are old, caked with chalk from abuse, and just not having enough of them...
I was wondering if any of you had any good suggestions for companies to get holds from. We do have a good number of holds, so we are looking to get higher quality holds to slowly replace the ones we have over the quantity of holds we can get...

SoIll makes the best holds, they are eurethane so they don't break they flex. They might give a club discount especially if you are buying a good number of them.

I second that. SoiLL holds are the best. Coolest shapes, sweetest colors, and practically indestructible. Not to mention their customer service is topnotch. We just got $2000 to buy new holds and pads for our gym and I went straight to SoiLL. Didn't even think twice.
How can you not love a company that makes these?

ThreeBallClimbing has some pretty sweet holds.
Revolution has some good ones too.
Teknik is the place to go for slopers and pinches though.

Im not really a fan of a lot of soill's shapes but that is a matter of personal opinion so I suggest you shop around. Lots of companies have nice stuff.
If your looking for quality and durability, the only above mentioned companiy i have had significant problems with is climbit.They were using a urethane that was not rigid enough and they didn't pay much attention to the structural strength of their larger holds but it seems like they are getting that corrected these days. Now that I think of it, Technics smaller holds seem a little prone to being brittle like perhaps they are trying to reduce production costs by adding a cheap filler to their plastic. Not sure of that but it is a reasonable explanation for my experiences with their product. That being said, I really enjoy both of these companies shapes.
If you are looking to save money, most of these companies offer a bulk discount. The bulk price may even be applicable to already discounted starter (random, multi-series) sets. Cheaper still would be to ask if they sold seconds (manufacturing defects). These are often every bit as good as a regular hold bit just not as pretty and you would not have to buy in bulk to get a screaming deal.

If you're short on money then you should start by cleaning the holds you've got!
A good washing will bring many holds back to like-new condition.

I've also found SoIll and Rock Candy to have a nice feel. Also great service!
Another smaller operation but one that has great service and a nice texture to their holds is Contact.
Also, check Element. I think they offer a reasonable discount for gym outfits. Good holds too.

I've set with holds from well over 50 different hold companies over the last 15ish years. And the holds available today that I think are the absolute best are coming from http://www.TheDRCC.com ... of course I work there and I biased but ... for very good reason!

I've had experience with both new tiknic and climbit holds.
The nex climbit holds seem to be great. We've had them at our gym for amlittle over a year now and they're holding up just fine.
It's true that old tekies have been pretty brittal. I've broken a few off myself for sure. Seth and Zoie have stopped pouring their own holds and now they're being poured by the same company that poures climbit and a bunch of other big name companies (including soilIll believe)... So durability of these holds shouldn't be an issue.
