I am looking to expand my home wall and need to buy some more holds. The ones I have now are Franklin and Nicros. I want about 60 more holds but don't want to spend a whole lot on them. Are most cimbing holds about the same in texture, durability, etc.? Mountain Gear has a box of holds for a reasonable price but I am a bit leary of their quality. What do you guys recommend?

As a past gym owner I have used many brands of holds. I also liked Metolious and Stone Holds. There is a differance in brands, but I'd think that Mountain Gear would be selling good holds, their other stuff is good. :D

Dude the best place to get some cheap holds and good quality for possibly a reasnable price is to get them off ebay, if you bid at the very last min then your garenteed to get them.

Since REI no longer has the Franklin 65 set for $99 (still might want to give them a call) I'd buy a bulk set of 60 from metolious cost the same amount as the cheap holds version but you have the metolious name behind it,

I've bought holds by Metolius, Cheap Holds, and Nicros. Cheap Holds makes very worthwhile holds, so don't be fooled by the low cost. I'd recommend saving some cash by getting some slopers and straight-forward finger buckets from Cheap Holds. The thing is, their holds are made from a non-standard material that is supposed to be very durable, but is not as hard as the material used by most other companies. Therefore, they excel at making high-quality low-profile (i.e. slopers) and simlply shaped holds rather than holds w/intricate features. My "gym" hasn't been constructed yet, although I spent last summer climbing almost exclusively at a commercial gym. The key thing I realized about holds is that shape is key. Make sure that you get enough interesting, engaging holds on your wall, even if you have to pay more for these. Good luck w/your personal plastic paradise! 8)

Try Ottsix holds. They have SUPER high quality holds for great prices. They also have other holds that aren't listed on their website too. Just write them and they will send you pictures and prices. I ordered a couple of sets of their Power Junkies and a couple of their training holds for my wall and absolutely love em. http://www.ottsix.com Matt

The bow sets that mountain gear sells are metolius and Franklin, theyb are a pretty good deal. I bought a metolius mega pack and ended up with some pretty good variety.
