Hate to be cliche, but try e-bay. They usually have some good deals going on holds. Also keep checking the used gear/great deals forum on this site, sometimes things pop up. Edited to say also check with your local gyms. Sometimes they'll sell off old holds they don't need, or ones that broke. My old gym in Florida hooked me up with like 5 really nice holds, some of them big for only 8 dollars total. The only thing wrong with them is that they broke where the bolt goes through, so I drilled holes and screwed them to my wall. <=glen=>

^ i agree completely, but on eBay i don't know if i trust the no-name holds, i'd probably stick to used holds of brand names (voodoo, nicros, entreprise, pusher, etc) gyms are another good place, you'll never know when you hit the jackpot. down in houston an indoor gym Exposure went out of business and just gave away all their holds

If you're going to build a wall, put some decent holds on it or you won't have any fun and you won't want to climb on it. I'd recommend starting with one of the big Metolius sets - you can find them on sale sometimes and they offer a good variety of holds. I got one for Christmas from REI, and they've really let me set some great problems. Once you have enough of the basics, buy some specialty holds to spice things up. VooDoo and Stone Age are my favorites. Here's a $99 Metolius set from REI that would get you going. http://www.rei.com/...0000008000&langId=-1

Hey, I too just built a wall/cave in my garage. This is my third one so I had a few holds, enough to make two sheets of ply wood interesting, but now I have a lot more room and needed to get tons of holds. My suggestion to you is that you start off with a bunch of Cheapholds holds, they're great and really are a lot less expensive. My next point to you is, if you plan on training on this wall and getting strong, and staying motivated, fork over the cash for good holds, the ones that you really want, if not you'll get really bored. I just got a ton of great stuff from cheapholds and spent under $140. I started with a bunch of the screw on foot chips and then went from there. I'm interested in your progress. Good luck and honestly, I know holds are expensive, but so is a wall that you're gonna use b/c of crap holds. Let me know how everything is going.
