I hate when people tell me how to climb something without me asking, I hate the chatter, I learned trad, l love the piece and quite. I had earplugs in my pocket from work, so I put them in. You can hear your breathing, like outside. People leave you alone. It rules.

Some people definetly need to learn how to climb harder and talk less, whether it be aobut their own failures/successes or other peoples failures/successes

one of my favorite things about my gym is just the "crash sessions" we have - gather a few giant crash pads, sit/lay down on them, and just chat about stuff, often climbing related, sometimes not. its cool, and u get to know ppl better and stuff like that. it just adds to the sense of community. if no one talked to me i would get pretty bored. mike

If one does not like the community of the gym, one should climb far from the community

I'd say the really annoying people are those that scream their dumb heads off every time they manage to grab the next hold on whatever sequence they're working on. those "lames" manage to break EVERY other persons' concentrations for the sake of themselves. The gym is a communal place for training. Imagine sitting at a normal gym benching your max and some sweaty idiot is screaming his head off right when you're trying to get you weight in lead over your own head. Pretty damn stupid. Respect the "training space" of everyone there. -falke

Ha ha. My BELAYER tries to wear earplugs in the gym because he is a really irritable guy. I know he has popped them in when I have to say TAKE about fifty times, then I come down and kick his ass. It is one of our few points of contention, for obvious reasons. He is kind enough to take them out when I lead.

That Nine Mil. idea probably isn't a good one, I think I like the earplug Idea better. Just kidding, go with the nine.

I recently belayed with them in. and you can hear what people are saying, and if your paying attention you don't need to hear much anyway. The good ones are 3M foam plugs, you forget they're there.

Forget anything in 9mm. Go for a larger caliber. Then fire a few rounds without wearing ear protection BEFORE the gym... All you hear is a nice pleasant ringing tone.

you people are not climbing hard if you notice what those around u are saying. If you are truely climbing, then your mind should only be focusing on the climb itself.
