Typically 1 hold every 2sq ft is sufficient Add 10 to 15% for outcroppings. Sq ft x 2.25 = tnuts you will need. Cheapholds.com has good prices and can consult on larger projects (and even work with steel constr. co. to build if you want to) 4.25 / hold for 500 or more Or $20 to $29 / sq for complete turnkey construction are quotes that I have heard, not too long ago.

Mine is pretty big. It cost me around $400 to build and put holds in, but it has saved me a lot of gym fees. Here are some bad pics. I will try and get some better ones up soon.

Here's my advise: if you have an addictive personality, stick with the gym membership. Mine started with about 100 sq. ft on one end of my garage. About 20 degree angle that goes up to about 11.5 ft. A year later and it's wrapped around the corner and 15 ft. along the side of the garage, littered with holds. Don't get me wrong, I love the woodie and am on it every day, but building and buying holds can get a little compulsive. Start simple, only spend what you can afford. You can still get super strong with just a hangboard, or so I'm told. Good luck.

go to home depot. spruce 2X4's are $1.69 a piece. http://www.southernrocks.com sells t-nuts for around $9.00 per box of 100. I bought 300 nuts, and with shipping it came to $35.50. http://www.cheapholds.com sells holds for really great prices, and you might also want to think about buying from canada. Canadian money is worth 60% of what US cash is. Im building my wall and its around 60 ft sq., and so far has cost me $35 in 2x4s, for 20 of them. decent plywood is maybe $20 per sheet, unless you know people. Sometimes you can get the damaged lumber in the back for free if you just ask. Do that if you only need small sections. be creative, and use every source possible. To save money make your own holds. That's what I did for all the holds I have, except for the holds in the overhang. Each hold probably cost me 40-60 cents to make.

I made my holds out of chunks of plywood. All I did, was stack different shaped pieces and bolt them to the wall. Single pieces can be used to make hard crimps, and sanded down pieces can be used to make slopers. I will put up some pics of individual holds later.

Mine is at about $1200. It is finished for the time being, but I do plan to add more. That includes quite a few holds, around 130, which once they are up don't look like much. It is addicting though.
