[quote="rrrADAM"]Another over rater... If it's a TROLL, it's just TB. Consider the author... A kid in High-School in Connecticut where it is cold as hell right now, and probably can't easily afford a membership. He'd rather be outside, but the weather sucks... He's upset with his climbing situation and/or options I think. Yeah i agree with ya rrrADAM, Some people like myself don't really have the terrain or the money to afford a full range of equipment (as equipment is alittle expensive) to climb outdoors so often. I go to the gym regularly to train myself for outdoor climbs and practice my strenght and skills. I also did first learn how to climb and belay in a gym. This is like a repeat of a stupid tread a few weeks ago. Like everyone says, get a life ! gym haters ! go climb outdoors ! whatya waitin for ?

Then don't go there, stay away, never darken their doors again. Oh and please go to school and learn how to spell, reading that post was painful.

In reply to: In reply to: Right, the outdoor gyms are okay though. Do they have outdoor gyms in the US?? Are they on real rock? who owns the rock? Sorry if these questions sound stupid, but here in Western Australia we don't have anything like that... lollipopchic, I think he's talking about overcrowded outdoor crags. And yeah, we have a bunch of them in the states. :(

The climbing gym has it's pros and cons. While I myself have fallen out of liking with the gym. I still use it for training purposes. I love the climbing that the gym allows, however, I really hate the feeling of being cramped up indoors. Climbing outside is much more natural. If your having problems with the people and the atmosphere at a particular gym, try a different one, if location allows. Don't just declare all gyms stupid, and that they suck.

I think that gyms are great. I can climb inside all year round. Sure they are hot and stinky, but there are also lots of chicks climbing in sport tops and spandex. There are way more chicks in the gym than at the crag on any given day. All you gym haters can go climb real rock. I'll stay in the gym with all the half naked women.

MR 8) now, i know that then someone mentions a half-naked woman, one might think that a woman is naked either from the waist down, or up. therefore, she is half naked. however, i think in this case, a 'half naked' means a woman is wearing shorts and a sports bra, and while she is not technically 'half naked', she is not fully dressed either.

The thing that I don't get is that when somebody started the Annoying Gyms thread everybody went off on indoor climbing. But when this guy started this thread everybody went off on him when it's pretty much the exact same thing. If you have any answers then holla.

In reply to: I'd be interested to know where he leads 5.8. Anyone that has ever actually climbed outside in CT knows that those cliffs can be done in winter. Provided the cold wind doesn't blow up his skirt. East/West Peak/Cathole/Looking Glass are all great winter cliffs in CT. Sleeping Giant also has some good warmer stuff.... Nothing over 100feet. Just about anything can be done no prob on solo top rope. They dry out usually within a day of rain too..... Certainly easy enough to do for a man "leading 5.8" in the sandbag capitol of CT...... So quit yer bitchin -Fear

 Note to self: When visiting Connecticut do not go to any indoor climbing facilities... apparently they suck, the people are introverts and don't want to communicate.

I have one next to where I work and I go during lunch time. It is fun, climbing is climbing and I usually can-t wait to go even in a gym. If you get in your thing, a new challenge, you forget all about, stinky carpet and bad music. I am fortunate to go to a gym which has a climbing structure on which holds are bolted. It is far less restrictive that the flat wooden panel ones. You have more than one option to climb up a route. I go outside when I can. It just takes me lot more time. Pack drive, unpack, walk, find the routes and gear-up and reverse. 8)

I think gyms are a great place to learn, because it is much safer than outside. Also it is fun to just mess around with you friends and a great place to meet other climbers.

What will happen to this site when every single one of the 30+ new members per day starts his or her own "i dont like gyms, prolly u dont 2" or "gym climbing is cool, people liked gyms so much that rocks sprouted out of the ground as a cheap substitute" threads? We are doomed! Repent sinners, and we all can be saved!

A-Friggin'-men to that, brother! And just in case anyone else isn't getting enough, check out these informative posts: "Annoying Gyms" "Climbing Gyms are Good" (mine!) "Climbing Gyms Suck" "Climbing Gyms don't suck" Ad nauseam, vomit, yarn, boring...

In reply to: If so, then one should aspire to be more than an Internet TROLL. You sound jealous. I bet you're really just envious of the really good net trolls. If you'd only get off the rock and spend more time in front of your keyboard training, you might have a chance. If you completely abandon all remaining vestiges of a life, you can even go pro like Sharma!

"gerble de gorf blat gobb drab scribble skrat bleh neah moot boptrak krid finkle stram dorf ert cu matmph rawc jurt haz querty blee drouple le bloo." hahahaha I had a girlfriend for a while earlier this year and near the end of our relationship thats all I would hear went she would talk.. anyways, I think that gyms are a good thing. I still have yet to lose my climbing virginity and go outside (please dont shun me too much). I am looking forward to going outside sometime soon, but in all fairness to me for the last 6 months ive had a nasty problem with an ingrown toenail and so I havent even been able to go to the gym

indoor gyms suck and they don't suck. They suck casue its not real rock, but they don't suck becasue you can climb in the winter, cheaper then driving to the closest crag(for me it is) and its a great atmosphere.

you are narrow minded! for all of us who cannot get outside as often as you, gyms are our life. i practically live at my gym and i don't have to pay anything because i work parties in exchange for my membership. in addition, we have awesome music. there is a request sheet for all members so that they play music that you like when you are there. i also know the staff and all the regular "gym rats," in fact i am one of them. do not speak of things which you do not understand! :?
