Are drywall screws OK for mouthing the plywood? Or should other types of screws be used?

Instead of 4 x 8 sheets, can 4 x 4 sheets be used for higher up panels to save on weight trying to get up the big boys? Or is there any benefit to using one full size panel instead of 2 small ones?

Drywall screws are fine, deck screws are better. Use 3 inch screws, and put in more than you think you should. 4x4 panels are fine too.

Definitely use deck screws. Min 2.5" and 3" is better. Drywall screws are very minimal in the load bearing department. 4x4 panels are much easier to work with and work just fine.

I would also suggest either square or star drive versions instead of phillips. They are way better at not stripping out and can be reused if you need to take it down for some reason.

Huh? I haven't broken any, and most of mine are sunk well below flush.

Absolutely use a star drive bolt. They do not stip out. I am still using the same driver and I have put in over 500 screws. Actually I dont ever want to use a phillips head screw as long as I live:)

Any scientific reason why 2" deck screws wouldn't work, every 6-8"? That still gives you 1.25" into the frame.

Please no smart*ss comments about "it's your life". I'm assuming 2.5" is better, and 3" better than that, but at what point is it overkill in the real world?

2" deck screws sounds ok to me, but hoping someone has more intelligent logic than that!

2" screws, less 3/4" of ply, means that only 1 1/4" is left to get purchase, and of that, the first 3/16" is tapered so not too much strength there, so it's basically only 1".

Use 3" deck screws.

3" star drive deck screws are the way to go. I have used a whole 20lb box with one driver and not had any strip out.

I cut all my 4x8 sheets of 3/4 inch plywood down to 2x4 as the top 16 feet of my wall is about 45deg and it made them much easier to hang.
