Need a Climbing Partner

Just started climbing and I am finding it tough to find people who want to go climbing consistently. I am really trying to get into the sport, but it's tough when most of my friends view it as a one-off activity.

I am a beginner at this, so I am more than happy to climb with someone who may be a little above my level. I find this is the best way to get better, as you are forced to push yourself.

If you are in the Ottawa area and are looking for someone to hit the climbing gym with, 2-3 days per week....drop me a line.

Hope to hear from you

Since your present friends consider climbing in the gym a "one off" activity you'll need to make some new friends.

My suggestion would be to go to the gym and make friends with the staff first. They should be able to introduce you to other people who are in your same situation.

Before you know it you'll have some new friends and possibly climbing partners.

Good luck.

I hope you didn't get the idea that I was suggesting you drop your other friends, just that you add some new friends for your climbing activities.

It may have changed in the last couple years, but I found VR to be the least friendly to beginners of all the Ottawa gyms.

I tend to climb at Coyote (Rock Gym) on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and have found the gym is generally more beginner friendly, and the people there just more friendly than at VR.

I don't climb as frequently at Altitude, so harder to say -- but if you're comfortable in French & English, it also does seem friendlier than VR.

Just boulder and be friendly and talk to people. Don't just spray. Ask people what they are working on. You'll find people who want to work problems together and make friends. Be sure you can provide a safe belay and they can also, and ask them if they want to change it up and TR one day. Many of the guys you see in the bouldering area all the time are in the same boat.

I couldn't agree more. We get people that come in and boulder till they find someone else that wants to rope climb or work a problem together. It usually doesn't take long. We also have a partners board at our gym, you could see if they have one at your gym.
