Ok, I need some advice....I am almost finished with my home rock wall. I finally decided that I wanted to paint it...(not for the texture itself, but mostly so I'm not getting splinters from the plywood).... My question is when is the best time to paint it? One would assume that after the plywood was hung, and right before the holds go on....but will that mess with the t-nuts behind wall? Any insite is appreciated...other than the ones wanting to castrate me for texturing my rock wall... :)

In your case I would use non-slip deck paint and the best time is before you drill the holes. However, since you already have it built I would suggest using some bolts (flat head ones work best) to screw into the t-nuts a section at a time to protect the threads. However, I have painted plywood before after the t-nuts were in without using the bolt method and it ends up working just fine. Just go light on the paint around the holes and you should be ok. I am by no means an expert, jut my opinion.

just slap on the paint and don't worry about the holes ...... a screw will easily cut through ANY pint dripping into the holes/t-nuts. You'd have to be going CRAZY with the brush to actually FILL UP any holes, and on overhanging wall section (probably your WHOLE WALL) the paint will tend to run OUT of the holes rather than INTO them. I personally wouldn't bother with non-slip deck paint (too much $$$$$). You can often get "surplus" paint real cheap or free from paint or hardware stores that mixed up the color wrong. Then go out back to the kiddie's sandbox and throw a few cupfuls of sand into the paint can and stir it up ...... presto - - - textured paint .....

use plywood that has one side sanded and dont bother with the paint. Unless you are planning on painting it a very very bright color (i.e. White) the paint will suck the light out of the climbing area. It becomes very hard to stay motivated when you are climbing in a dark cave.

Paint can cause a rash and comes off with "too much friction". Get tattoo'ed instead. I'm sure Pornstar can direct you to a good parlor.
