Which gym is the best in Seattle? I will only be there a short time but would like to hit one. if i get the chance. I admit as a general rule I am not that in to concrete, wood and plastic. Must be because i started outdoors on rock. But thought what the heck LOL preference leans toward taller routes as apposed to more short ones bouldering is a low priority

If you want the best of seattle's indoor scene, go to stone gardens and boulder. Climbing inside on ropes is a waste of time (and i mostly climb trad during the summer...) Vertical world has a far better selection of indoor roped routes (lead and tr) at their seattle location. I haven't been to the others. Stone gardens is mostly focused on bouldering (they have a number of "rooms" over two floors with features ranging from slabs to steeps, cracks, to stemming corners, bulges to 20 ft roofs), has really good rout setters, better holds, a couple of steep lead walls that are pretty cool, a selection of not steep tr walls and an outdoor lead wall set up for mixed climbing in the winter. It is open earlier and later and more crowded.

Probably the largest collection of toprope/lead walls in Seattle is at the Seattle Vertical World. http://verticalworld.com/content/view/25/26/. For bouldering, Stone Gardens is probably the best spot in Seattle, and on the whole if I had to pick one spot to climb it would be SG- their routesetters are evil in ways that I like, and they probably have more roped routes than you'll be able to sample in just one or two days.http://www.stonegardens.com/....html?photo_one.html That said, neither of them are 'tall' spaces- walls go to 30-35' max. Also note- traffic in seattle can be pretty terrible. If you're going to be on the east side, (redmond/bellevue/kirkland) consider the redmond VW as an alternative to braving rush-hour traffic across the bridges. If you know something about where you'll be and when (what time of day/week) you'll be looking to climb, that could factor into how much sense one gym would be over the other.

Another +1 for stone gardens. Unless you have a partner, toproping may be difficult so it would probably be easier if you are only going for a day to boulder, and SG has great bouldering and a fun enviroment.

Thanks people! I have found out the meetings will actually be at a convention center in Tacoma. I don't yet have directions to the dudes house i will be staying at (lol he offed and I am not about to pay $130 per night if i do not have too! but it is 20 + min from the meetings. As I have never been to the Seattle I was not aware of driving situations . But one look at google's satellite picture makes it easy visualize the bottlenecks. With the itinerary of meetings scheduled now in hand. I will be lucky if I can do a damn thing for fun. Your right with less than 35 feet of vertical climbing.... I had considered REI. but at 20 bucks PER ascent per route it just doesn't seem worth it for 65 feet to me. I think I would rather make an outing to the guy on heres new gym Vertical world. But that will probably depend on where we are staying. Should know that in a day or two. thanks for the very nice feed back! Kev

Come on by the Vertical Club. We are conveniently located just off the free light rail line in downtown just two stops from the convention center. The 25th street stop is at out back door. We have Bouldering routes over 35' long so no need for ropes. We also have 4 splitter cracks. I'm sure you will find something to your liking. Send me a private message and I will try to meet you for some climbing at the gym. I'm there a good portion of the the time. Don't forget to visit Satellite Coffee for one of the best cups of coffee in T-Town. -Ryan

ROFL You are so mistaken I have had a life membership at upper limits since before it opened. Yet i spent more time there before it opened, helping build the place than I have since it opened. I am not knocking gyms. I just am not that into plastic and concrete.
