For the more experienced home-gymers out there: What's the best way to anchor a woody into concrete? I'm considering putting a wall in my unfinished basement, which has exposed joists along the ceiling but no studs in the walls (concrete) or floor (concrete).

I had pretty much the same situation in my basement and I solved it without anchoring into the concrete. My wall isn't very elaborate by any means. It is 12 feet wide and is maybe 130 square feet of climbing surface. But it works pretty good. I posted one of the drawings I made for the wall here *Edit The link doesn't work. Paste this address into your browser (http://www16.brinkster.com/crowlmc/Photos/IM1a.jpg) *End Edit It is the side view and I hope it makes sense. I basically have the main part of the wall wedged between the ceiling joists and the concrete wall/kick plate. I used some simpson (I think that is the name) products that you can get at Home Depot. I put a vertical strap between the ceiling and the 2x6 in the middle because I was concerned about the 2x6 bending but I don't think it is necessary. Let me know if you have any more questions. I might be able to post some pictures as well. [ This Message was edited by: wigglestick on 2002-03-22 08:20 ]

concrete screws... dill in the concrete with a carbon tiped bit and then put the screws in. Works great.

Dynabolts, or expansion bolts. Drill into the concrete with a masonry drill bit and a hammer drill deep enough to fit the bolt after it goes through the 2x4. Slide in and tighten. Easy peasy.

You could also rent a tool called a "Rapid Nailer", it's a nail drivng device powered by .22 cal blanks, and they are used to nail framing to concrete all the time, without the expense of buying the tooling necessary to install expansion or wedge anchors. They would be more than adequate for attachment to the floor, but for attachment to the walls I would go with wedge anchors, available at home centers. Jeff P.S. Matt your link didn't work for me, but that could be my browser, I don't know why on Earth I ever Linked up with they're lousy service!
